Album Notes

Ronan Murray was born in Dublin in 1977, luckily enough into a family where music was and is as normal as breathing. As a kid he used to improvise on the piano and pick up tunes by ear from the radio or wherever else they could be heard. His dad gave him his earliest piano lessons and like him Ronan developed a passion for playing the organ which is still a big part of his life. Ronan is a well-known and accomplished organist and improviser. In his teens Ronan started playing with bands at school while wearing the classical music hat as church organist. Soon he was listening to all the classic songwriters and bands from the 60's and 70's. The Beatles, Stevie Wonder, Traffic, Jimmy Webb, Burt Bacharach are just the tip of the iceberg in an ocean of influences.

Eventually Ronan started writing songs and went into a frenzy of activity doing just that. But as often happens, life had its own distractions and the songs took second place to Ronan's work as a jobbing piano player and organist. 2006 marked a change with the launch of his debut album, Reasons and Seasons. The songs on the album combine soaring melodies and gutsy musicianship with insightful lyrics into the quirks of relationships.

REVIEWS

Gripping immediacy and an intimacy that doesn't feel voyeuristic!

This is an album to listen to again and again. The first track, Find me a Reason sets the tone in forthright style and the following tracks provide plenty of light and shade, carrying you along on a journey with Ronan. Sharing his emotions through the songs, Ronan avoids the trap of pouring so much into them you feel you're intruding inappropriately. He lets you feel you are a friend to be confided in. This CD is a grand companion for long car journeys. Why not 5 stars? I'd have liked more sleeve notes - minor quibble, and don't want to wait for the next release for more songs!
