Mr. Rondat is one of most famous French guitar wizards to date. We can find his name on many releases by the likes of Elegy, Consortium Project, Jean-Michel Jarre, Red Circuit, G3 (along with Joe Satriani and Michael Schenker), The Element, Furioso and others. Patrick played live next to the greatest artist and bands: Tony MacAlpine, Metallica, Queensryche, Blue Oyster Cult, Steve Lukather, Gary Moore, Vanden Plas, Angra, Cyril Achard, Ron Thal and others. He is a very special guitarist for me as he played alongside Jean-Michel Jarre in Danzig (Gdansk) in Poland. It was a concert for the 25th Anniversary of Solidarity - the first independent self-governing trade union in the Polish People's Republic. They played near the Gdansk shipyards in Poland in front of 100,000 audience. A token of that gig is CD titled "Live From Gdansk (Koncert w Stoczni)". Privately, Patrick is a great fan of American cars.
We can write that the beginnings of his solo band go back to the year 1986 when the first line-up began to form. Patrick's first solo album was published by Vogue in 1989, then re-released by Nothing To Say in 2002 and re-published again by Replica Records in 2004. "Just For Fun" is a result of cooperation of seven musicians: Patrick Rondat (guitars), Frederic Guillemet (bass guitar; Trust), Francis Lockwood (piano), four keyboardists - Christophe Garzon, Franck Moinard, Michel Devoux and Alexis Tchlakian and a drummer Christian Namour who unfortunately passed away in 2001.
I am always lost for words after listening to such an amazing albums. Patrick produced melodic shredding metal with bit neoclassical, progressive chords and spectacular solos. We can relish every single note and instrumental concepts which can easily baffle us. All rhythmical parts are interpersed by extraordinaire guitar solos. Patrick brimmed "Just For Fun" CD with glorious gambits and performing in-between some contrasting and romantic decelerations, then coming back to the rousing fast-fingering parts. It's easy to sense a dynamism, aggressiveness and rage in his guitar playing which goes in accordance with ubiquitous melodies. Thousand scores radiate off out of Patrick's guitar axe and make our minds blowing. His technique and solo whirlwinds are daunting indeed. Listening to "Paysages", you will become convinced how accomplished classical guitar player he is as well! A remastered version of "Just For Fun" is enriched by two bonus demo tracks - "Life Force" and "French Message", and also by a fragment of excercises taken from Patrick's instructional video "Virtuosite a velocite a la Guitare".
I sincerely admit that I knew "Just For Fun" would be perfect from the off. There isn't the cracking point, since the whole CD is astonishing. As a deft young virtuoso, Patrick Rondat excellently coped with all technical difficulties. An outcome of his solo debut effort is extremely good. What did I write? Good? What a poor word! Saying that Patrick is a good player would be an understatement! He is a guitar genius for whom no restraints exist! His debut can be recommended to the fans of Tony MacAlpine, Joey Tafolla (especially his first solo album), Vinnie Moore, Greg Howe, Timo Tolkki, Gary Moore and even Yngwie Malmsteen. I didn't write Patrick is a clone of them. I did write that he is as consummate hotshot as them. In other words - the same world's guitar league. I am an absolute devotee of Patrick Rondat and his grand musical art!
