Album Notes

“…this is an album I listened to a great deal, I'm enjoying it.”
Ross Porter (CBC- After Hours)

“Ron Davis is] very sensitive to melody with his flowing, uplifting lyrical way with the piano reminiscent of Tommy Flanagan, Vince Guaraldi or Ahmad Jamal... dazzling performing ambience... [Soloduotrio] is a very solid, satisfying 51 minutes of piano jazz and is recommended.”
Dave Nathan (www.allaboutjazz.com)

Ron is active on the Toronto jazz scene. The Ron Davis Trio trio was recently named “One of Canada's best undiscovered jazz groups” by CBC's Dreamstream (www.dreamstream.ca). The trio also accompanies three of Canada's foremost jazz singers– Sara Latendresse, Jennifer Ryan and Melissa Stylianou – in their three-part venture Eight to the Bar.

Ron has played at a wide variety of events and venues including the Downtown Toronto Jazz Festival, the Markham Jazz Festival, the Barrie Jazz Festival, the JVC Jazz Festival, the Cabbagetown Festival, the Montreal Bistro, The Glenn Gould Theatre, Much More Music, Gate 403, the Orillia Jazz Festival and many others.

Since the release of Ron's CD soloduotrio, listeners have heard it on CBC, Jazz-FM 91.1, CKLN and other stations. The Sun newspaper chain's John Sakamoto placed soloduotrio at no. 6 on his Anti-Hit List for Oct. 31. It held the #3 spots on HMV's independent charts (Nov. 10/01) and jazzpromo.com (Dec/01). Fall 2002 saw the release of the cd So Much featuring The Ron Davis Trio with brilliant singer Lori Cullen. Top US retailer cdbaby.com chose So Much as a “jaw dropping” front page choice!

Ron has had other lives. He became a lawyer in 1984 and practiced until 2002. In 1993 he got his PhD in French linguistics at the University of Toronto where he was Assistant Professor for several years.

REVIEWS

This CD continues to be one of my favourites.
author: Colin Darling
I first met Ron at a jazz jam that he hosts in Toronto and was impressed with his skill and versatility. This CD reinforces this impression while also revealing a wonderful musicality that's often missing in technically skilled pianists. This CD continues to be one of my "new favourites". I'm happy to be an aquaintance of such a wonderful musician. Thanks Ron.

I purchased the CD per the recommendation of my niece. We purchased it for the song "I Will", but enjoy the entire CD. I intend to extend the recommendation to my friends.

No disappointment here - This is beyond sound
author: Keith Farnsworth - Portland, OR
I first enjoyed hearing these artists live, but hesitated getting a CD for fear of being disappointed by a difference in sound quality. What a delight to find the same wonderful music coming from Ron's album! It titillates the senses like an April shower in a hot tub. Thanks Ron. And thank you, CD BABY!

Ron is tops with me!
author: Louise Peacock
Ron Davis is an exceptionally talented jazz pianist. His live performances are filled with enthusiasm and passion ..... his performance on this CD does not fall short. ..... We have been fortunate enough to hear Ron live on many, many occasions here in Tornto, and have heard him play most of the cuts off this excellent CD. The CD absolutely does not diappoint ... We love it and listen to it often. Hard to pick a favorite track since we love all of them, although I'd lean more toward his intrumental only tracks since that's what I like best. I know he has another Cd in the works and am looking forward to getting it. Louise Peacock (Avid Ron Davis Fan)
