ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Born on the island of Antigua, Rone-iff A. Carr, traveled to the United Stated with his parents and younger sister. Music has always been a part of him and runs within his blood as his mom grew up singing in groups with her siblings and his dad plays several instruments. In Fairbanks, Alaska, where his youngest sister was born, he began playing the saxophone, at the age of nine. He found early success playing in honor bands in elementary school and in high school winning the Louis Armstrong Jazz award. Throughout the years, he has landed several opportunities to play at functions in Alaska, New York, and Germany to name a few. In 2002, he and his wife, Eh Moo, moved to San Diego, CA where he recorded his first album “Journey of Deliverance.”

Rone-iff’s musical influences, to name a few have been John Coltrane, Grover Washington Jr., Kenny G, Charlie Parker, Kirk Whalum, Miles Davis, Fred Hammond, & Kirk Franklin. Rone-iff also had the opportunity to perform with the late Maynard Ferguson. His eclectic taste in music is reflected in the songs he writes which are influenced by Jazz, Latin, R&B, Hip Hop, Reggae, African, Gospel and various other styles of music from around the world.

He desires to reach the world through his music and to minister to lost souls. He continues to find inspiration for his songs from his readings, his personal experiences, and relationship with Jesus Christ. He hopes that his listeners will take encouragement and strength from his music as they continue their journeys, especially during their trials and test.

SmoothJazz.com Review
Saxophonist Rone-iff Carr debuts with JOURNEY OF DELIVERENCE featuring Island-spiced jazz blending a classic sound with funk, Latin, R&B, hip hop, Reggae, African and Gospel. Born in Antigua, a vibrant island in the Eastern Caribbean, Rone-iff now calls San Diego, CA home. A sax man since the age of 9, the music moved the young performer to early success playing in honor bands throughout his school years earning him the Louis Armstrong Award! Rone-iff’s influences include the legends… John Coltrane, Charlie Parker, Miles Davis, Grover Washington Jr. and even today’s leading sax players the likes of Kenny G and Kirk Whalum. His own unique style is warm and thoughtful. On JOURNEY OF DELIVERENCE there’s a little something for every kind of jazz enthusiast… on “Chill Out” Rone-iff introduces some rich jazz to electronica for a very successful marriage. The islands shine through on the tropical “Halle.Halle,” and the upbeat jams of “SG II” and “Gonna Be Alright” are sure to leave you uplifted, while the sweet and reflective “Trust & Obey” showcases a sensitive and melodic saxophone. Rone-iff uses his music and ministry to reach out to those in need of inspiration in hope of helping those who listen to find encouragement and strength in their own journeys. JOURNEY OF DELIVERENCE delivers 13 tracks of joyful jazz!

unique and enjoyable
This is a nice and very enjoyable album. I typically listen to classical music, but this album is a nice diversion. While Bach meticulously planned his music to be symmetric and precise in many of his compositions, this album flows effortlessly and naturally. Tracks 2 and 7 have nice Caribbean flair that remind you of your past tropical vacation when you walked under the shady palm trees in a warm and breezy day. Tracks 4, 5, 6 and 13 are quite relaxing to hear, allows you to catch a breath on a busy day. Track 8 has a nice, hypnotic rhythm that catches your attention. This album has a few distinct styles that catch your attention!
