Ronin: In Japan, under the feudal system, a samurai who had renounced his clan or who had been discharged or ostracized and had become a wanderer without a lord; an outcast; an outlaw.
Ronin is one of New York City’s most powerful live rock bands featuring members from different paths and disciplines. NYC rock veteran, Captain T (Captain T band & Hollywood Superstars), gun slinging guitar virtuoso Ranger X, multi talented film composer/sound mixer, bassist extraordinaire, Jeet Kun Do practitioner Ninjaboy and World traveled touring Jazz drummer, Michael Sapp. “Dissolving Pinch Roller” is the band’s Sophomore effort and it comes full of rage and passion. Ronin first LP “The Sun Rises in the East” was a success amongst critics. This 2nd LP features guest appearances by other NYC rockers including John Ski on Vox, cellist Dan Cho, Johnny Ostronomy and Rob Fiore from Paisley Babelon, Em Cody from the Mynks and Mike Ryan from El Gotten. Ronin proves again that they can deliver the goods, drawing influences from stoner & prog rock, metal, jazz and funk on this album. With these elements they compact them into a swift and powerful side kick to the face. Highlights include Paint the Floor, Concubine, Hideaway and West End Girls. These boys turn their amps to 11 and rock, God Dammit! Stand out tracks include Paint the Floor, Concubine, Hideaway and West End Girls. Check out www.roninband for additional info on the band.
Review from Rock N Roll Experience - Feb 2007
Rating: 5 stars
Ronin are a cooler than thou New York based band that just put out a new cd entitled "Dissolving Pinch Roller", which is an interesting mix of emotions, rage, attitude & vibe...there's slow songs, trippy songs, heavy songs, & overall, the band describes themselves as very Kyuss-like & I'd be inclided to agree, except I think Ronin are a little more musical than Kyuss..."Crickets" kicks the cd off & this cd, if you let it, takes you on a strange trip, & musically, it's kinda all over the place, but it's all rock focused & just super cool! Few bands can say they put out music that's just for the love of music, & Ronin are one of those bands...this new cd is all about creativity & I think the band really comes into their own on this cd! I made a comment before that the band has this really fresh feel & they don't seem jaded at all, & this CD just asserts that notion...Ronin are a very original band that doesn't fit in with the current bands because Ronin have a totally different vibe & that's a cool thing!
