Straight from the Jackson Browne/James Taylor/ Eagles folk rock cloth comes Ron Kemp. Considered a classic "late bloomer", Ron began playing guitar at age 32. Over the years he has written well over 100 songs, many still yet to be heard. In 1995, he completed his first song, "'Til The End of Time". Since then, he's continued to pour his heart and soul into his lyrics which has been hailed as "honest" and "organic". Drawing from a wide range of musical tastes, his melodies are accessible and "hummable". Captured here on Better Late Than Never are songs from the heart: love songs. Lyrically, Ron tends to write in an autobiographical manner, sharing his joys and pains through his music.
"Better Late Than Never is a narrative of my life. Taken from my own, real-life experiences, each song is a chapter in my life. I've always been a hopeless romantic; therefore, I write a lot about my love interests. Some good...some not so good. For example, the verses of First-Sight Love is an actual recount of an event that occurred in my life, with the chorus lamenting over my nonstop search. Conversely, Reconcilable Differences paints a picture of betrayal. Too Far Gone is an introspective about a past addiction problem.(I'm 17 months clean and counting...) Musically, I borrow from Tom Petty the idea that music doesn't have to be complicated to be good. At the same time, I like to constantly explore different styles.(I loved Barry Manilow, but Mandy got boring after the 7th or 8th time he "rewrote" it.) I tend to make a conscious effort to make sure no two songs sound alike. The melodies are rich, "hummable"(even singable!), and catchy. The lyrics are lyrics that everyone everyone can relate to in their own lives even though they're personal to me. That's the beauty of music. That's the beauty of Better Late Than Never." rsk

Wonderful Acoustic Folk/Rock
author: Sean B. and the RadioIndy.com Reviewer Team
“Better Late than Never” is the newest release from the talented Folk/Rock musician Ron Kemp. The songs on this album for the most part just contain Kemp’s warm and inviting voice and his sweet acoustic guitar which gives the production a nice clean and crisp clarity. On this album you can hear undertones of Folk, Bluegrass and Country in Kemp’s acoustic styling. “Keepsake” is a slower moving love song in which we can hear Kemp’s wonderfully talented guitar picking and strumming skills. On the song, “First-Sight Love,” Kemp lets his voice get a little Country as he tells us another love story. “Crocabye Way” is a more fun and uplifting song in which Kemp lets his strumming get a little poppy. While the songs employ different sounds, the album throughout is relatively relaxed and calm. All in all, this entire album works if you are a fan of either love songs sung well or of acoustic Folk/Rock in the way of something like a James Taylor approach.
