Album Notes

Ron Rutherford is a man whose life has been built around music.

He fondly recalls bouncing on the back seat of his Father’s Chevy Bel Air to The Beatles singing “I Want To Hold Your Hand” on the radio.

“It was a typically beautiful Dallas, Texas day,” he says, “blue skies and fair weather cumulus clouds out the windshield as we sped down the highway.” It proved to be a seminal ride. He has been inspired by and passionate about music ever since.

Ron played piano and violin as a kid in Texas. Moving to New York City as a young man, he took up guitar.

While living in New York, he played and sang around Manhattan and the Northeast; did some television and jingle work; was written up in the New York Times for his performances with The Rutherford & Steward Band; and wrote and performed briefly with legendary rock pianist Nicky Hopkins.

Ron Rutherford’s musical influences are eclectic and diverse including such artists as: The Eagles, Don Henley, Crosby Stills Nash & Young, Neil Young, Jackson Browne, Bob Seger & The Silver Bullet Band, The Steve Miller Band, Van Morrison, Rodney Crowell, Buddy Holly, The Everly Brothers, The Beatles, The Byrds, Buffalo Springfield, The Band, The Allman Brothers, Creedence, Little Feat, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, Elvis Costello, Traffic, Leon Russell, Bryan Adams, John Mellencamp, Warren Zevon and Hank Williams.

Although growing up listening to and loving Rock and Roll on the radio and records, he had country music in his ears wherever he went, just from living in Texas – and both had a profound impact on him.

Ron Rutherford’s music is something familiar you’ve never heard before – stories of love, loss, insight, and inspiration. Picture a full moon over a long lost trail and a lone wolf that beckons the listener to follow to the end.

Ron Rutherford’s album, Lone Wolf, ends too soon.

Lone Wolf - A Journey of Songs by Ron Rutherford

From the very first track of Ron Rutherford’s latest CD offering, Lone Wolf, one is swept up and involved. Jumping off with the upbeat single, "Freak Flag," this listener was rockin' around the floor, singing the chorus and feeling the urge to get out and ride! "Unlucky Love" is a soulful, smooth love song that cleverly belies its title and is about love found! Each track pierces a different spot of your heart with intrinsic sentiment emoted through lyrics that are universal and poignant. Lone Wolf is more than a musical offering, it is a journey of one man’s life through eyes that have seen it all and brave enough to bear his soul for the listener to befriend. "This is True," "Damned," "Tennessee Moon," Rutherford’s tribute to his friend, Johnny Pierce, and the title track, "Lone Wolf," round out a collection of compositions that is well thought out and sincerely communicated. Rutherford's voice is reminiscent of Tom Petty and Don Henley but then uniquely his own. And as if all that weren't enough, Rutherford has brought together some of the industry’s stellar posse in John Groover McDuffie, Marty Buttwinick, Scott Brannon, Bill Keis, Ted Falcon and Larry Russell. Co-produced with Robert Wayne Hawkins, Lone Wolf is a refreshingly familiar take on timeless situations and places we’ve all been, roads we’ve all walked, and for some of us, as a lone wolf. Call it country rock, southern rock or blues, Lone Wolf by Ron Rutherford is just good ole rock 'n' roll! trueCOWBOY magazine 15030 Ventura Blvd. Sherman Oaks, CA 91403 USA ph: 818-642-4764 calamity@truecowboymagazine.com www.truecowboymagazine.com

An Emotional Journey
author: Don D. Lewis

Independent artists are experiencing a surge in popularity and exposure thanks to the Internet. One such artist that's taking the reins of destiny is Ron Rutherford. Ron's superb CD "Lone Wolf" is filled with great songwriting and lyrics that convey the emotions of love found and lost. The album is a mix of simple guitar melodies with a touch of backing musicians along with full-bodied country/rock/roots music inspired tracks. Ron's excellent songwriting/storytelling talent shines in every song and the quality of production makes the album an easy listen. The album starts off with an rocker called Freak Flag that reminds me of early Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers. It speaks of putting yourself out there facing life head on. From there Unlucky Love speaks of finding someone new when you've stopped looking and expected loneliness to be your constant companion. His lyrics offer a tone of hope and future happiness for those looking for a true love in their life. The mood of a cold night in the street of New York City set the tone for Bye Bye Baby Bye Bye. It expresses the feelings of loving someone who's decided they want out of the relationship and just walk away. Ron speaks of letting go but still keeping the possibility of reconciliation open. Hole In My Heart reminds us that relationships are give-and-take and true soul mates know this. Loosing someone you thought was the one for you takes a heavy toll on the heart and mind. With This is True, Ron delivers another strong rock inspired track that speaks of taking control of his destiny and facing the future with renewed direction and determination. Tennessee Moon talks about the pain of loosing a close friend and writing partner. The title track Lone Wolf invokes images of the independent and strong loner that's looking for a kindred spirit; someone with whom he can run underneath the moon together. The last song on the album, Dirt Road is an anthem to the young musicians that start with nothing, work hard, save their money, grow up and hit the road. No matter how far you come or the level of success you achieve, it's important to remember from where it all started...the Dirt Road. An enjoyable listen from end to end, Ron Rutherford's "Lone Wolf" would make a fine addition to anyone's music collection. Don D. This Is The Sound
author: Martin Smit The NextBigThing Podcast

This is the sound of the Cowboy, the Truck driver, the Poet, the Ordinary Guy. This is the sound of the great open spaces at long past midnight, when the heart is fearful and the soul is lonely. This is the sound of a brightly lit bar, full of noise laughter and raw, honest music. This is not afraid to sing of friendship and love and loss. This doesn't conform to fad or fashion and doesn't pose. It is as pure as dawn in the mountains and as truthful as city street traffic jams. This is Country Rock music that wants to be the whole world not just parts of it. This is Lone Wolf, by singer/songwriter and independent music recording artist, Ron Rutherford.
