Simply put, this CD is the shit.

Root Villa, Salem's favorite boys, have one absolutely essential thing going for them. These guys are amazing artists with deliciously creative musical integrity. Obviously, every single track on their self-titled debut is precisely indicative of this priceless trait. The music is honest, but unpretentious. It's intelligent, but fun. It's mature, but playful.
Most importantly: though the word is overused to the point of meaninglessness, this CD is loaded with truly UNIQUE melodies, rhythms and lyrics. But even though these guys have a knack for presenting listenable, new sounds, the music is always comfortable and familiar.
Like their Myspace About Me espouses, you get a craving for it. A craving to listen to the whole damned thing all the way through. I'm convinced that this craving has come from the secure and gorgeously contrasted balance between every imaginable set of opposites.
Root Villa's first release is an absolute gem. It's the kind of thing that makes me proud to live in Salem, Oregon.
