ABOUT RORY GRUBB
In a country awash with legions of Singer Songwriters, you're blessed if your work differs to the standard solo output. In recent years it seems that anyone who can play the guitar in Ireland and has a note in their head has jumped upon the songwriting bandwagon. However, one listen to the music of Rory Grubb and it becomes clear that he is far removed from the dense landscape of the modern Irish male folk songwriter. 21yr-old Grubb bears an unmatched, emotive sound with whispery lyrics that stir the senses, and a voice that cannot easily blend in with those of his peers. Grubb seems to write, record and perform completely from within, rather than contriving to emulate others or follow trends.
Rory Grubb's earliest encounter with music was the discovery of a homemade Beatles tape in his father's car. He instantly fell in love with the Beatles' songs, and they became the soundtrack to his early years, listening to little else. Years later, he convinced his mother to buy him a guitar. By the time Grubb began to write his own material he was fingerpicking and writing quiet songs for himself. He had yet to discover the worlds of Nick Drake and other 1970's-era folk music heroes with whom he is now usually compared. Rory has developed a unique and engaging sound, sometimes with his guitar and voice, other times with the aid of percussion and stark piano arrangements.
The 2005 release of his first album, Joining The Dots, has generated interest among radio journalists and writers, who often quote a likeness to Drake and Donovan.
