Rosanne Drago was born and raised in Cleveland, Ohio, where she began studying classical voice at age 14 at the Cleveland Music School Settlement. At 17, she was a featured vocalist with Hank Geer, a great musician and jazz legend in Cleveland. They performed at the famed restaurant and jazz club, Sammy's in the Flats. She also studied with renowned vocal coach, Marietta Richards. Marietta introduced her to musical theater, where she began studying acting with acclaimed professionals from the Cleveland Playhouse. She pursued this for fifteen years, starring in several lead roles, including Sally Bowles in Cabaret, Rizzo in Grease, and Bianca in Kiss Me Kate.
In the mid 90's she came to Los Angeles on vacation. Curious about the jazz scene, she went to the Money Tree in Toluca Lake to see the great duo of Jack Sheldon and Ross Tompkins. Jack graciously got her up to sing and apparently liked what he heard, because he said "Rosanne, you should be in New York or Los Angeles. Things can happen for you, but you need to relocate." She took that advice and within a few months had moved to Los Angeles.
With her heart back to jazz she has been able to assemble a group of the finest musicians in Los Angeles (namely: Jack Sheldon and Nolan Shaheed on trumpet, Ray Pizzi on tenor sax and alto flute, Ross Tompkins and Michele Faber on piano, Barry Zweig and Ron Anthony on guitar, Tony Dumas on bass, Roy McCurdy on drums, and Ray Armando on percussion) to bring you this great CD.
