Album Notes

Roscoe Beano, is an award-winning singer/songwriter from Belleville, Illinois.  His long-awaited "Time Traveler" CD contains his original songs about the lessons of life and love. Roy "Roscoe" Culbertson began writing songs as a high-schooler in the greater St. Louis Area.  Since then, this veteran musician has garnered numerous awards for his songwriting, including an ASCAP award for longevity with the country hit by Lynn Anderson, "We Got Love".  He toured the country with The New Christy Minstrels and spent several years working at Opryland in Nashville, TN.
He eventually returned to St. Louis, where  friends dubbed him "Roscoe" and soon after that The Roscoe Beano Band was formed. Roscoe's return to his musical roots in St. Louis proved inspirational and motivating, and re-energized his songwriting. Ever prolific, Roscoe won awards four consecutive years at the prestigious and highly-prized Walnut Valley Festival Songwriting Showcase in Winfield, Kansas.  Two of these award winners, IKUK and Winfield Lullaby, are included on the "Time Traveler" release.

A host of talented St Louis musicians help bring the songs on this CD to life. You can hear Jan Marra's sexy harmonies on "This Time Now","Souvenirs" and "River". Ann Toler's warm, gentle and youthful harmonies shine through sweet and clear on "Dancer" and "Mighty Friend". Ron Dillow emerges as a formidable slide guitarist on "A Matter of Time" and "There's a Horse Outside".  Charlie Du Montier's Bass accompaniments are just what the doctor ordered throughout the recording.  Virg Toler and Amy Thorn's studio work on "Horse" and Jim Whelan's rhythm treatments of "IKUK" and "Dave's Cappuccino" cross over the traditional boundaries of roots-folk-garage music.

Great CD for a road trip with the windows rolled down.

This is such a great CD. It has a beautiful flow to it. I heard Roscoe Beano for the first time in 2001 at Clint Hardings, Song Circle of Friends. I will never forget that May afternoon, because of the three songs he performed, one of which is on this CD, IKUK. It's filled with touching advice that reminds you not to take everything so seriously. I taped that performance when Clint aired it the following week on his KDHX show, but the cassette tape is wearing thin. I'm glad to have the CD now, because now I can take a road trip with Roscoe and his melodies.

Excellent original alternative folk songwriting, instrumentation and delivery.

I really enjoyed this CD. There is a common denominator underneath this particular collection of songs; a delicious combination of infectious rhythms and lyrics that run deep and expose hidden memories and dreams. Each song is a unique ingredient in a 13 course musical meal prepared by this master chef. Perhaps the tastiest morsels are IKUK and Winfield Lullaby, both winners in the prestigious Walnut Valley Festival Songwriting Contest in Winfield, Kansas. Sprinkle in some sweet harmonies and solid instrumentation by his musical compadres and Voila, dinner is served! If you are a fan of contemporary folk music, with delicate harmonies and tasty instrumentation, and you welcome thoughtful lyrics that bring smiles and inspiration, along with a tug or two on your heart strings, then you'll be rewarded by this CDs subliminal urgings to just close your eyes and let these magical songs weave their way into your soul and mind.
