Album Notes

Down On The Spirit Farm 12th Anniversary Edition has been re-mastered by Trevor Sadler at Mastermind, produced by the author/composer/performer, Martin Jack Rosenblum, for this Anniversary re-issue, and features an alternate version of a song and a substitution of another.
Originally, Down On The Spirit Farm was too long for the technology of the day and the songs that have been added, one to provide a better notion of the album intent in the first place and another to offer a different perspective on one of the album's primal tracks, along with new depth of sound and clarity for all seventeen tracks (totaling over seventy-six minutes), make this classic album not only come back to life but live better with truer invention and finer presentation.
Before there was Alternative Country, that sound was on this album; Little Steven of Springsteen's E-Street Band said at the time that if there is such an idiom as Art Rock then this album is it. Defying definition, it defines defiance even now in Alternative Country and Art Rock vernaculars.
Moving between a spooked, country landscape and a haunted, urban alley, the listening map of Down On The Spirit Farm in 1994 took its audience on a visionary ride along field streams right into city basements.
This was an album that got ahead of the times musically and poetically. It is now fully restored and revitalized. It presents the literary folk, howling visions of Dr. Martin Jack Rosenblum -- poet, philosopher, guitar stylist and vocal seer in sound.
The band songs rock with passion.
The solo songs roll with purity.
What is meant by going 'down on the spirit farm?'
Twelve years ago it meant being part of a cult attending concerts by Martin Jack that were rituals for music taking poetry so far that spiritual journeys transposed into performances.
Now we have the rejuvinated record for this and it is available twelve years after. The beautifully redesigned jacket and disc, re-mastered and re-produced, keeps this concept album sacred. This Anniversary Edition sanctifies the original but savors even more than what once was.

Rocked the lot, and then some.

Met a gal at a stop off Highway 90. Her head under the hood music flowing for all to hear. Thought I'd be cool and give her a hand, she didn't need one but how entertaining her and her companions were to speak with, and the music was unlike what one would expect in these times, your music. Down on the Spirit Farm was made for the long haul and I am glad to have it by my side. Now I will look into the rest of your music which seems to wear many different skinned boots...

Too late for the dance twelve years ago, I am wrist snap throttle thrilled to receive a second bite at the apple with the 12th Anniversary re-release of DOWN ON THE SPIRIT FARM. Smoldering instrumentation liquefies with potent male imagery so vivid it melts the senses like smooth whiskey by a pinion and fruitwood campfire. The missing link in my catalogue of Dr. Martin Jack Rosenblum’s extraordinary work, I had no idea how much I was truly missing. After first listen I realized all the rest of his works were reborn by its fire. Every second spent with DOWN ON THE SPIRIT FARM is evocative, timeless, and everlasting, the stuff of myths and legends. I will cherish this gift as I do you Martin Jack, always.
