PEACE WILL COME
Lyrics and Music by Neil Rosengarden

We've got to stop all of this fighting
And find a way to compromise
If we don't show a little kindness
We're setting up for our demise
I've got to stand beside my brother
And help him out when he is down
We're gonna work it out together
Black, Red, Yellow, White, and Brown

It's not impossible nor unlikely
That people could learn to live together
There is a cycle for everything that flows
Maybe now peace will come for everyone

It's not impossible nor unlikely
That people could learn to live together
There is a cycle for everything that flows
Maybe now peace will come for everyone

La, la, la, la, la, la, la, la, la
La, la, la, la, la, la, la, la
La, la, la, la, la, la, la, la, la
La, la, la, la, la, la, la, la

It's not impossible nor unlikely
That people could learn to live together
There is a cycle for everything that flows
Maybe now peace will come for everyone

COMES A GIRL I ONCE KNEW
Lyrics by Michael Novak
Music by Neil Rosengarden

The silence swears to keep everything to itself
If only for tonight
If only for tonight
From the corner of my mind comes a girl I once knew
She was all I ever wanted
That girl was you - Oh, yeah

I close my weary eyes
Darkness is my refuge
This is a lonely life
A cold and lonely life
From the corner of my mind comes a girl I once knew
She was all I ever wanted
That girl was you

Silence doesn't keep it's word
It let's the world back in
With it's questions of why and remember when
From the corner of my mind comes a girl I once knew
She was all I ever wanted
That girl is you - Oh, yeah

Silence doesn't keep it's word
It let's the world back in
With it's questions of why and remember when
From the corner of my mind comes a girl I once knew
She was all I ever wanted
That girl is you - Oh, yeah

That girl is you, you, you, you, you
you, you, you, you, you

PANORAMA MAN
Lyrics and Music by Neil Rosengarden

Was it really all that different way back then
The colors that are faded?
I remember all the things that you might do
To try to come off jaded

You'd come in a ridin' on your silver horse
Your hands they would be flailin'
After all the hooey you would run off course
Instead of nice smooth sailin'

Now everything's orange
Sun slipping to water
Come witness the carnival you left behind
You panorama man

If you look around into the sky tonight
The trees all look like soundwaves
And I know that you're somewhere looking at the moon
You panorama man

Now everything's orange
Sun slipping to water
Summer is the time to take another look
As nobody else can
You panorama man

Was it really all that different way back then
When colors weren't so faded?
I remember all the things that you might do
To try to come off jaded

Now everything's orange
Sun slipping to water
Summer is the time to take another look
As nobody else can
Like panorama man
You panorama man
Panorama man

I'M RIDING ON AIR
originally released on THE PLAID ALBUM
Lyrics and Music by Neil Rosengarden

I'm riding on air
My children were just signed up for day care
They'll love it there
I'm much too busy these days
Now they're out of my hair
Here is summertime my friend
I'll bake a cake to commemorate me
No more distraction I'm finally free
I'll take a course to improve my self-worth
Why did I bother to even give birth?

Was married to Sam
But now I can really see who I am
I'll take it all
The world revolves around me
Any idiot can see
Wash my underwear on key
I'll keep on taking as long as I can
Living and breathing in fantasy land
I will gain power and riches and fame
Every psychiatrist will know my name

HOT DATE
Lyrics and Music by Neil Rosengarden

Does your minister know you're here?
Does he whisper "baked potato" in your ear?
Am I three weeks to late to get a hot date with you?

Did the Pilgrims find no land
When they saw the prosecution of The Hand?
Am I just too morose to get a little dose of you?

Obligato sustenuto mama papa baby oh yeah
Do you know that I am just a figment of your peapod when the
Moon is full of heaven and your pants are too long?

Leave me today
Can you rid yourself of poultry in your way?
I give up so get down and be my baby now

Obligato sustenuto mama papa baby oh yeah
Do you know that I am just a figment of your peapod when the
Moon is full of heaven and your pants are too long?

Won't you come and light this man's fire?
It's what I really, really, really desire
Am I three weeks too late
To have a hot date with you?
Am I three weeks too late
To have a hot date with you?

I'D BE A FOOL TO TRY
originally released on THE PLAID ALBUM
Lyrics and Music by Neil Rosengarden

Once in a lifetime you see her
The one with the innocent smile
You think you've made a big hit
But you're out by a mile
She can't be wooed with your flowers
Gets nauseous when you start to sing
Why is she full of these powers?
I'm cautious as anything

I'm walking down the lonesome road
How can I help but cry - Oh!
Lickety split I'm back in the shit
I'd be a fool to try

I went to school for the summer
to learn Patagonian law
Had a big crush on the teacher
And now it's all raw
We spent our days at the ocean
Then mystical nights at the sea
I felt like Amos and Andy
Whenever she smiled at me

I'm walking down the lonesome road
How can I help but cry - Oh!
Lickety split I'm back in the shit
I'd be a fool to try

And now my days they are numbered
I seem to have run out of words
I gave the one with the innocent smile to the birds
She joined a convent on thursday
By friday night she balled the Pope
Saturday she was found hanging
From Bony Maroni's rope

I'm walking down the lonesome road
How can I help but cry - Oh!
Lickety split I'm back in the shit
I'd be a fool to try

IN LOS ANGELES
Lyrics and Music by Neil Rosengarden

There's a place I wanna be in Los Angeles
There's a girl I gotta see up on the beach, yeah
Find a table in the back in Los Angeles
Where I can tell her 'bout my fantasy
So come on baby get me on a train
There is no other place I'm s'posed to be
So come on baby, get me on a train

The pollution in the air in Los Angeles
Is removing all the hair up on my head, yeah
Everybody got a stare in Los Angeles
There is no reason now for me to stay
So come on baby, get me on a plane
That girl I used to know has moved away
So come on baby, buzz me to her brain

LIKE A MAGNET
originally released on THE PLAID ALBUM
Lyrics and Music by Neil Rosengarden

Woke up this morning I was thinkin' 'bout you
Like a magnet attracting me to
All of the emotions that were buried so long
Like a magnet so small and so strong

How am I to resist?
Being with you just shouldn't be missed
Don't try pulling away
Wouldn't you rather stay?

Gotta be careful 'cause I've seen this before
So connected while living in war
I try to run but it's all I can do
Like a magnet attracted to you

How am I to resist?
Being with you just shouldn't be missed
Don't try pulling away
Wouldn't you rather stay?

It doesn't matter what the outcome may be
Just the feeling is freedom to me
So go where you will go to do what you do
Like a magnet I'm attracted to you

MARY

Lyrics and Music by Neil Rosengarden

Mary - you don't have to make the sky turn blue
Carry - everybody's problems in your shoe
Almost all your life you've taken care of someone else
You thought that you had to
Now it's time to change it all around and be my girl
'Cause I'm in love with you - Mary
When I think about the time I spend without you - apathy

DON'T STOP NOW
Lyrics and Music by Neil Rosengarden

Listen to me babe before you miss the mark
Everybody thinks that you're crazy
You don't even see the faces in the dark
Never have I seen you too lazy

Don't stop now - the people would be so turned down
And if you did I would not allow my feelings to be
Brushed back to the underground

I know you like to talk alot about your big own self
And can't accept a simple direction
Put your inconsistencies upon the shelf
Only then you'll make the connection

Don't stop now - the people would be so turned down
And if you did I would not allow my feelings to be
Brushed back to the underground

You don't understand when you fade away
You can't understand, now
You can't understand when you fade away
You can't understand, now
You can't understand when you fade away
You can't understand, now
You can't understand when you fade away
You can't understand, now

Listen to me babe before you miss the mark
Everybody thinks that you're crazy
You don't even see the faces in the dark
Never have I seen you too lazy

Don't stop now - the people would be so turned down
And if you did I would not allow my feelings to be
Brushed back to the underground

Richard Tabnik

an amazing musician; a great CD!
The way I figure it, a person is lucky to meet even one individual in a lifetime who positively and absolutely changes your conception forever of what is possible. I must be, as the song says, “a lucky so and so” having met a few so far. One of the earliest was Neil Rosengarden.

Someday, people may think he was merely a myth, like Big Foot, flying saucers, or giant alligators in the NYC sewers; others may react more strongly... but Neil Rosengarden is not a “...figment of your pea pod...” He really exists! For example, just the other day, I was talking to a free-jazz clarinetist friend of mine.

“Have you ever heard of Neil Rosengarden? Amazing musician! ”

“I think I’ve heard of him....”

“I’ve told you about this brilliantly talented cat... we met when we were both 11 years old ... even then he could play anything on the trumpet and play more instruments than all the Beatles put together...a great singer-songwriter and a unique sense of humor...”

“I hate people like that...”

“Well, you’d dig Neil. Practically everyone does; it’s unanimous: a phenomenally gifted musician...and he’s just got a new CD out...”

Some New Physicists theorize that the Universe is actually composed of music; they must have met Neil! The universe of music on this CD stretches from a wonderful new anthem for Peace that will hook your soul [Peace Will Come], transportive songs of love and memory [Comes a Girl I Once Knew], deceptively simple ‘songs from the islands’ with deep psychedelic imagery [Panorama Man], all the way to some down and dirty originals that will rock you someplace else [Hot Date]. And there’s much more to discover here...

Neil also gets a little help from his friends. One I know is the great guitarist Dean Bailin who, like Neil, is multitalented and has inspired many musicians, including myself.

Get this CD and you, too, will say to someone:

“Do you know Neil Rosengarden? Amazing musician...”

Highly recommended!
I've been listening to Insurgency since I first got hold of it. From the opening track, PEACE WILL COME (a song for our times if there ever was one), to the infectious IN LOS ANGELES, to the strong closing track DON'T STOP NOW, Insurgency consists of nothing but well-crafted songs of substance. There's not one weak spot on the disc. Neil set a high standard for himself with his previous work -- and he more than meets that standard with Insurgency. I cannot recommend the CD highly enough.

Richard Bennett

This one's worth your time
Neil's credentials are stunning ranging from old school show business straight through to today's trend setters. Insurgency! is a banquet of his talents; warm songwriting, wry lyrics, multi-instrumental master and singer. Peace Will Come is a song that resonates an age old wish and is particularly topical. This one's worth your time.
