ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
The Rosin Sisters are Jan Smith, Ann Whitley, and Barbara Panter: three fiddlers, three friends, three women who love to play and sing together. We each have been playing traditional country music in the Atlanta area and beyond for over 25 years. After singing with an all-women a capella group, the Divas, we decided to form The Rosin Sisters to further explore our love of singing and fiddle music, especially the rich heritage that comes out of the Appalachian and Southern regions of America.

We do a wide variety of roots music, including traditional string band fiddle tunes, country, blues, gospel, Cajun, and country dance music.

From reviewer Lyle Lofgren with permission: On the Rosin Sisters' "re-formulation of the Carter Family's 'Single Girl,... the Sisters bust down the door with all three of them singing the chorus."

"[T]heir vocal harmonies remind me of the superb harmonies that Dolly Parton, Emmylou Harris, and Linda Rondstadt created for their 1987 Trio album."

"In addition to this energy, this album features unusually high-quality sound, with a lot of presence. The instruments and voices are both crisply distinct and blended at the same time, an effect that requires great skill, whether on stage or in the studio."

"The fiddle blues pieces are skillfully done, fancy stuff played up the neck, with authentic slides both on instrumentals and vocals..."

"The title track, 'Sweet Sunny South,' learned from Buddy Thomas, is a modal version of the more familiar Da Costa Woltz's Southern Broadcasters recording, which allows the sisters to explore some interesting archaic-sounding harmonies with triple fiddles and trio voices. I liked it a lot."
