Album Notes

Chris Rosser's second recording, "The Holy Fool", further combines pop, world and folk influences in songs of homecoming queens, ashrams, relationships, spirituality, Federico Fellini and small town churches. Guest appearances by Beth Wood, Tom Prasada-Rao, David LaMotte and more.

Hailing from the mountains of Asheville, NC, Chris Rosser is the winner of the 2000 Rocky Mountain Folks Festival songwriter contest and has showcased at the Kerrville Folk Fest and the Falcon Ridge Folk Fest. In addition to playing guitar (in some very strange tunings!), he plays jazz piano and has studied Hindustani classical music with world-renowned Indian musician, Ali Akbar Khan. He is perhaps best known as a songwriter however - Dirty Linen described his songs as "lovely homages to the experience of being alive and human."

"Chris Rosser's The Holy Fool is a wonderful recording. It is eclectic and spiritual. The Holy Fool should propel Rosser to the top of the list of folk singer-songwriters."
Tony Sica
WTMD, Baltimore, MD

"Chris' songs are good medicine. Kind and heartfelt and beautifully written."

Insightful lyrics and cool sound

I discovered this CD in Asheville a few years ago and play it often. Chris has a soothing and reaching sound, and a turn of a phrase I envy. Although we would probably differ on theology, I wish other artists could express their thoughts as succinctly and with musical influences of other traditions. He blends Indian sounds with folk sounds and jazzy cool rifts. (If contemporary Christian music had someone like him, you'd see some credibility come back to the genre.)

This cd is so very intelligent -- not just in the lyrics, but the complexity of the music and the themes. I listen to this cd over and over again and get something new out of it everytime. Finally, though-provoking music that isn't depressing!!

Praise for "The Holy Fool"

Loved "The Holy Fool." Could really groove to "She's So Good" and got lost in "David & Marie." "Frederico Fellini" didn't seem to fit the rest of the CD, but it's a nice tribute to the filmmaking great. Hope to hear more out of Chris Rosser.
