ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
View from the mountain and a band that was ahead of their time.
Joe Tripplet was a member of the D.C. counterculture band Claude Jones with Happy Acosta and Jay Sprague. That band shared a farm out in Warrenton with Nils Lofgren & Grin and I'm sure that there are many tales of life on the farm from that amalgalm. Joe and Happy began performing as an acoustic duo calling themselves The Rosslyn Mt. Boys (RMB from here out). The RMB made a decision to go electric and invited Peter Bonta of The Nighthawks join as bass player along with Bob Berberich from Grin on drums . Tommy Hannum on pedal-steel guitar, who had been working with Emmy Lou Harris in her D.C. days, rounded out the band and the RMB were set. When Jay Sprague also came aboard from Claude Jones, Peter was able to move over to keyboards and guitar. The RMB were contemporaries of the Flying Burrito Brothers and both followed the trail blazed by the Byrds. If the RMB had been West Coast based like the Burritos, they may have broken through to a universal recognition. Their first album "The Rosslyn Mt. Boys" released in 1977 on Gene Rosenthal's Adelphi label sold over 12,500 copies. They opened for and backed up stars like Conway Twitty, Tammy Wynette, Jerry Lee Lewis, Loretta Lynn and Buck Owens. The RMB called it quits in 1979 and the members went in various directions. Peter was a member of Artful Dodger before opening Wally Cleaver's Recording in Fredericksburg,VA; Tommy Hannum relocated to Nashville and has been Ricky Van Shelton's band leader and an in-demand session player for some years while Peter Bonta and Rico Petrocelli, the last RMB bassist, went on to record and tour with Mary Chapin Carpenter.
There's been a lot of water under Key Bridge since the last recording by the Rosslyn Mountain Boys. The band that brought real country, rockabilly and its own, original, brand of country-rock once again defies the boundaries. This is a collection of some of the best RMB material that spans from the late '70s to today - from Rosslyn to Nashville, Fredericksburg to Frederick, form D.C. to Memphis...
Same soul, same voices, Different Skyline...

Too Much Water
The before and afters of these guys only in pictures is different. Perhaps if country music had crossed over sooner these fellas would of had all the fortune, fame, money, drugs and problems such as the other groups that were "discovered", did! The Rosslyn Mountain Boys are the best bar band I have ever heard and they are a landmark to DC's music scene. Wouldn't it be great if these guys and I mean all of them could get together more than once a year to play local clubs?

Stumbled across this CD on CDBaby by chance and immediately
started grinning and have stopped since and not had it out of the player since. Five stars should not be given readily as there is, in truth, not all that much truly deserving but no problem with Different Skyline.FIVE *****, NO PROBLEM. Buy it, you'll be glad.

RMB and lead vocalist Joe Triplett were and still are contender.
This is first class stuff. A terrific CD, and I'm talking as a veteran musician. All the tracks are superior in construction and execution to RMB's 1976 initial effort as young'ins on their first LP. Joe Triplett's inimitable vocals make one feel both deep-sorrow-angst and chuckles --how he do that? Guy should have gotten prizes and medals years ago. He's like Graham Parsons with a personality and a heavy-lfting vocal talent. Too bad most of these guys never ventured far from the DC area -- but they're alive and healthy and laying it down for real in 2006. Recording quality, incidentally, is fab-u.

Great stuff from a highly underappreciated band!
What a great band and wonderful CD. It's enough to almost brings back memories of Georgetown in the 1970s- if that decade weren’t already masked by one big whiskey, Qualude induced fog.

Great CD!
I ordered this CD immediately when I saw WHEN I STARTED LOVING YOU listed on it. I LOVE THAT SONG!
I enjoy listening to the WHOLE CD, but another one of my favorites is September Storm. I haven't taken this CD out of my CD player since I got it.

Frogger
