Autumn Leaves was born of a single moment, the vision of my grandfather sitting at my grandmother’s bedside during the last hours of her life, holding her hand and singing her gentle goodbyes. His whispered rendition of the American Songbook standard Autumn Leaves became for me the most poignant display of true love I had witnessed — warm and humble, bittersweet and honest. In an attempt to capture that beautiful and heartbreaking moment, I wrote this song.
My grandfather passed away shortly before the completion of this track. Rachel and I performed the song at his funeral and are proud to release it here in both his and my grandmother’s memories. – Michael Gallant
