Ross Ward, performing guitarist, singer and songwriter, listened to all the Roots recordings he could get his hands on from an early age. Ross started his onstage musical career in the late 60’s/early 70`s as fill-in bassist with the Flying Circus. During the 70`s, and as a young professional side-man, he played and toured nationally with musicians and artists like Tim Gaze, Ronnie Burns, Stevie Wright, Blackfeather and Cinamon, plus a myriad of other’s, up to the present time.
In the early 80`s, Ross formed ‘Speed Limit’ with Phil Doherty ( a long-time writing partner) . They recorded 2 singles and 1 LP for Airborne Records. Tours with The Cure, Canned Heat and most major Australian rock acts of the day, were some of the highlights of this intensive period .The mid 80`s saw Ross form "The R and B Band" which for the next 10 years provided a ’revolving door ‘ for many of Sydney`s best blues/rock musicians. Regular guests included Ron King , Dave Tice, Richard Harvey and Phil Emmanuel.
In the mid 90`s Ross moved to the musically rich Byron Bay area and established himself as an acoustic-based soloist, before hitting the road and working extensively in NSW, VICT. and QLD as a soloist. He has also appeared in solo mode at Blues Festivals in Canberra, Narooma, Bruthern, Brisbane, Sydney, Broadbeach and Thredbo in recent years, in between other appearances with his band ‘Ward`s Xpress’ ( see relevent bio hereabouts ), which was formed in 1997 and also does regular performances along the East Coast, having released no less than 3 CD’s ( ‘97’s ‘Toe The Line’ ,’98’s ‘Southbound Freight’ , and 2001’s ‘Wire-fire’ ) with the band having it’s own impressive festival appearance record.
In November 2003 Ross released his first solo effort, ’Transit Lounge’. The CD was awarded ‘Blues-Oz CD Of The Year’, in February 2004,and this independent release has enjoyed tremendous support and airplay via the Community Radio network of Blues show’s right around the country. Yet more touring is set for the second half of 2006, with up-coming shows in QLD, NSW, ACT and WA.
