If you're tired of the same manufactured pop, roth d'lux is a breath of fresh air. With Ginette's silky voice and Daniel's groovin guitar, roth d'lux's style has been described as a little bit of pop, a little bit of prairie, a little bit of jazz. Groovy.

where do they come from?????
In 1997, band mate's Ginette and Daniel ventured away from the place they called home forever. Why? They had performed in almost every venue in Winnipeg, from smoky bars to fine dining establishment, to the jazz festival, to the folk festival, to busking on the streets. Let's go explore!!
So the duo walked away from "cost of living" their band of 5 years, packed a moving van and set off to the west, young man and woman and of course baby. Stopped for a short while in "cowtown" on their way to Phoenix. Wait a second, just a bit too hot and crazy in this 4 million people-town!! So off to the Caribbean they went. Luckily, Daniel has a legitimate and paying profession to subsidize their desire to keep moving.
Wow!! In Barbados, the Roth's live down the street from a British millionaire with a penchant for spending his money on such things as a 5.1 recording studio, equipped with it's very own engineer/producer in need of projects. "Sure" says Brad, "let's get some great studio musicians and do some recording." What luck!! Oh yes and all the while, roth d'lux are performing at all these Canadian consulate parties and hoodads. But before they were to take Barbados by storm with their chesterfield soul, time was up. They did manage to record "my anniversary" and "in my dreams" in just a few days. Thanks Brad wherever you are!

why are they here?????
Tucson? Why not? These Canadian kids had never performed in a desert before. I bet desert people like music too! So after three years of dining on carne asada and Mexican beer, Ginette and Daniel have made this amazing place home.
What have they been doing lately??
roth d'lux highlights for the past 2 years include performing at the 18 and 19th Tucson Folk Festival, being guests on KXCI's "Locals Only" show, getting a coveted spot on KXCI's 2003 compilation cd, playing a monthly show at Frog & Firkin, entertaining at the 4th Avenue Street Fair and performing at KXCI's cd release party at Plush. Of course, sharing their music in live spots such as the Epic Café, Bookman's, and the Cottage Bakery wasn't so bad either.
performers..... roth d'lux has had the pleasure of performing with some of Tucson's finest musicians. In 2004, their kick-butt rhythm section was made up of Joel Gottschalk (bass) and Jeff Friedl (drums) who were staples in the local jazz scene. But alas, joel was called to live the bohemian life, travelling with the circus train, and Jeff has made his way to Los Angeles, where he is a freelance drummer, teacher and macaroni-and-cheese eater. Shawn Mendoza (bass player for latino salido) has agreed to fill in and wow does he fill in!!! On drums, Alejandro Canelos, freelance drummer extraordinaire has this amazingly cool style...see it to believe it!
Boy wonder trumpet player, Martin Patfield (and I say boy, because he just became of legal age!! No more sneaking him into gigs!) is working on his 2nd solo recording. Soloing is his thing, and if you've ever been to a roth d'lux show, you would have had the listening pleasure. Carla Kountoupes, what can I say, she is the string goddess. Coming from a classical background, she plays every style, from classical to jazz, latin to fiddle music. Some shows, you might see both Carla and Martin trading solos.
Oh yes and Akila Fields - Smoothest player of keys on this side of the planet. roth dlux had the pleasure of recording with Akila before he, yes he too, has joined the greatest show on earth, playing keys for the Ringling Bros. He is missed.
NEWS RELEASE.....
Yes! Somewhere in the washes of Marana, in a secret location, in an old what-used-to-be pig barn, roth d'lux has put together a recording of their latest tunes with help from their friends. Ken Triphan of LAT studio toiled tirelessly, manning the controls and calming the fires...Yes it has been a long and arduous journey for the 2 roths, raising kids, working, performing and doing the late-night studio visits. But after 14 months of pleasure-pain, It is complete. This recording will be formally released in April 05. Did I mention you can buy this recording on cd baby?? See home page for details!!

Fun, unpretentious, sexy music from these hip soccer parents!
author: Beth DarnellOkay, I'm a little biased because I LOVE Dan and Ginette as people, but I admit that I didn't have super high expectations about their music-I mean, Dan is an engineer, for God's sake, and Ginette is this super PTA mom person. I ordered the CD because, as I said, I love Dan and Ginette. When I heard it, I could not believe that this gorgeous Sade-like voice was coming out of my Mom friend and that silly Dan was such a rockin' guitarist. The music and lyrics are fresh and creative, funny, but overall, happy and unpretentious. Lava Love is my favorite tune and Strong helped me get through my first half-marathon. Would I like the CD if I didn't know Dan and Ginette? I can't really answer that, but I believe I would still love it and want to find out more about them, only to find that they are these great, normal Canadian people. When my husband heard them, he wanted to ask Ginette out and couldn't believe that these were the same people who actually like Sweet Tomatoes buffet! Buy the CD!!! You will not regret it.
A CD Full of Wonderful Music
author: Jim NelsonThough I have lived in Tucson for almost six years, I had never come into contact with roth d'lux until catching their performance at this year's Tucson Folk Festival. I'm sure many of us have had the experience of hearing someone live and then finding their recorded work less enthralling. Let me just say that roth d'lux on CD is every bit as good as they were in their fine live set, and Extra Ordinary further illustrates the range of their songwriting talent. Ginette Roth's vocals are very fine, and Daniel's guitar playing and harmony vocals are always tasteful and supportive. Plus they have fine contributions from Martin Patfield and the other musicians who played on this CD. If I had to pick favorites on Extra Ordinary (and that's tough), I would mention Lava Love, Little Eddie, and Sharon and Jimmy. But they're all good, and I'll probably have different favorites as I listen to the CD over time. I would put roth d'lux in the same category, as other groups and performers I like, such as Over the Rhine, Amy Mann, and their fellow Canadians, The Cowboy Junkies. In short, get this album. You won't be disappointed.
