Album Notes

Dan Rothstein began his guitar studies at age 7, and was performing professionally at age 13. He continued studying both jazz and classical guitar while obtaining a bachelor's degree in music and science from Columbia University. Dan studied classical guitar with Helen Wade and Jonathan Trotta, and jazz guitar with teachers including Ted Makler and John Scofield. He has performed throughout the eastern United States from Nashville to New England and for many years was based in New York City before moving to his current home in upstate New York with his wife and three children. His 35 years of guitar performance have included many of the significant performing venues in New York City ranging from the Electric Circus in the late1960s through Max's Kansas City, the Bitter End, La Mama, the Lone Star Café and the Beacon Theater in the 1970s, Gerde's Folk City, The Bottom Line and The Cotton Club in the 1980s, and The American Institute of Guitar in the 1990s, as a leader, solo performer and supporting a variety of popular artists. After an eclectic guitar career covering a range of styles from country/western to doo-whop to R&B music, Dan now focuses exclusively on jazz and classical guitar.

Excerpts from a recent profile of Dan and his solo guitar CD, "Guitar Verité", in the Columbia County (NY) Independent:

"...As his breathing audibly moves along with the rhythm of each work, his playing comes across honestly, and while often technically stunning, is down-to-earth. When the last notes of Rothstein's work fades, this fusion of musical complexity and straightforward performance leaves listeners with little doubt in Rothstein's versatility and discipline as a musician."
