Album Notes

Formed in late 2004 in Brooklyn, New York, Royal Nonesuch has been carving a unique niche for itself in a music-saturated neighborhood that has a reputation for producing underground darlings. Unlike their peers, the band has distinguished itself with an understated sound that ranges from atmospheric folk to dissonant rock while experimenting with non-traditional instrumentation and dynamics within traditional song structures.

Royal Nonesuch began as a project of songwriter Lee Eaton, formerly of Atlanta based 'Away Portugual!', who initially enlisted Peter Imbres, (The Inklings and No Name All-Stars), to play guitar and lapsteel and Eli Schneider, who was then on tour with 'Timesbold' in Europe, to play upright and electric bass. As the instrumentation evolved, the decision was made to bring in drummer Tom
Greenwood to give a pulse to their cascading arrangements and the band began playing clubs in and around New York City.

The band recorded their first EP in early 2005, which was described as "a spacious, picturesque and lonely soundscape, both cinematic and understated." The band is planning on recording a full length album by the end of the year and is currently playing regularly in the New York City area
and beyond.

BUY THIS CD!

What a terrific cd. It's beautiful, haunting and very melodic. It reminds me of Wilco and early 70's accoustic Pink Floyd. To be honest I'm addicted to this cd. It's been in my player for 10 straight days.I plan on buying copies for family and friends. Highly recomended!

Good find!

This is the first cd I've bought from cdbaby, and I wish I had found this cd sooner. Its like a nice combination of Calexico-like instrumentation with dry Son Volt style lyrics and singing; an ideal combination really, and one I was really happy to find. Any fans of those two bands or Americana in general should check this out; it's top-shelf all the way.
