Album Notes

In March of 2000, "Brother Rob" Robertson coalesced a five piece combo outfit of seasoned Alabama-based cats and released THE ROB ROBERTSON COMBO: YOU'RE COMIN' ON TOO STRONG (Sundown Record #1003).

The magic of COMIN' ON is its understated intensity and soulful expressiveness. Less is more in Brother Rob's first recording date as a leader.

The EP was recorded live at Denial Studios in Birmingham, Alabama on January 31 and February 1, 2000. Arranged and Produced by Robertson. Engineered and Mixed by Daniel Farris. Mastered by Jim Corriher.

The personnel consists of: Robertson on guitar & organ, accompanied by Sam Williams (tenor & alto sax), Ralph Lusian (guitar), Eric Simmons (bass), and Matt Kimbrell (drums).

The sessions were loose and relaxed, as exhibited in the mellow grooves of the title track and the Joe Zawinul-penned number "Mercy, Mercy, Mercy." At the same time, Brother Rob and his five-piece performed confidently with an inspired swagger. Each of these six cuts demonstrates their collective penchant for improvisation as well as structure.

A follow-up recording entitled A CLOSER WALK will feature more of Robertson's signature brand of blues-meets-jazz. Stay tuned.
