Album Notes

--produced / recorded / performed by rufus stennis brown. more information on rufus stennis brown see:

this is rufus's latest cd. other cd's soon to come out includes "(femme)" by Mertyl--featuring the vocals of Johanna McKenzie Miller and the tunes of both johanna and rufus.

www.mertyl.com

and "a la la mashina," featuring the music and stylings of Ron Terman for HEaleR's debut cd (sometime in the spring 05).

rufus' interest in classical music and composition has given this "pop" cd an interesting bent with regard to melody and harmony--(track 6 is a good example of that).

his favorite track on the cd is the final track, The Roosterman. It features his wife, Jennifer, on violin and his oldest daughter, Hanna (7), singing back up vocals. The Roosterman is "sort of" a Leonard Cohen type tune--give it a listen (track 16).

rufus highly recommends you enroll in his music appreciation course at kishwaukee college:

Music Appreciation Winter 2004-(all technical syllabi info forthcoming)

Grading: I use a percentage system: 90-100% = A 80-89% = B 70-79% = C 60-69% = D 0-69% = failure.

40% of your grade is based on your daily homework
--you will turn in a lecture review for each lecture
--the lecture review is to be in Haiku format
--the strict Haiku format is as follows:

5 syllables
7 syllables
5 syllables

Raise Your Hand if you still do not know what a Haiku is or need more clarification.

--reviews that aren't about the lecture will not be graded.
--reviews that are not in Haiku format will be marked down

30% of your grade is based on quizzes
--quizzes may occur at anytime and in any way shape or form

20% of your grade is based on 2 CD reviews
--each review is worth 50% of the 20% of the total grade
--in other words, each one is worth a letter grade, essentially.
--one cd must be of "classical" music
--classical includes music of any composer considered
--of the Middle Ages (476-1450); Renaissance (1450-1600); Baroque (1600-1750); Classical (1750-1827); Romantic (1820-1923); Modern (1923 - 1990) ; Post Modern (1990 - 2054)-the case for jazz being consider classical will be judged on an individual basis. In other words, is jazz a classical artform?

Well, anyone? --yes, get your paper out, take notes, chop chop, each class is a week. Yes, time to begin. We can finish this syllabus later. We have a good 3 hours infront of us, let us not grow bored yet... I haven't even talked about Lully yet... just wait, all you'll recall is that I mentioned something about mucus, but, ah, at least you'll recall something.
--CD reviews must be hand written and legible; no more than 2 pages. In any color.

10% is for class participation which includes attendance and classroom behavior. I demand absolute silence when I lecture.

Please address me as "rufus," and always feel free to ask me appropriate questions-both in and out of the classroom:

Love It!!

I bought this CD shortly after I found out that Rufus died. It starts out slow and kinda sounds like Beck, but it picks up. I never knew he had such a deep singing voice! It sounds like he had a lot of fun making it. I wish I could tell him in person... :,(

O. X. Reality is an amazing work of art. Track 4 (A Kiss Goodbye) is an almost ominous premonition of Rufus. I love each and every track the more I listen to the cd. I wish he was still around to comtinue his passion for music.
