Reveiw From All About Jazz by C.Michael Bailey
West Coast Saxphonist Robert Stewart turns in a searing and spitited live performance at the World Stage. This disc also has the distinction of being the late drummer Billy Higgins final recording.
Stewart opens the disc with his own funky origional "Judgement" from his World Stage release of the same name.He follows this with another orgional "Get Out" followed by an upbeat version of "Days Of Wine and Roses".
The disc concluded with lengthy investigations of Ellington's "Caravan" and John Coltrane's "Impressions"
Richard Grant's trumpet provides trumpet support and he can play the blues with the best of them.
But in the end it is Stewart who playes with all the fire and conviction of the taking what's old and having it renewed.
"Jazz is an intelegent music for intelegent people"/Billy Higgins

REVIEWS

Buy this record, RS is the REAL DEAL!!!!

The sound on this disc is suspect at best, but the music is out of this world. Stewart is a monster. After listening to the opening track roughly 8 times, I finally was able to move on. The rest of the disc does not disappoint. If you can find a better CD purchase for $10, I'd like to know about it.

All five tracks get my tick and a koala stamp for variation of styles, to construct a huge landscape of top BLACK JAZZ. My favourite is GET OUT. You can practically hear a vocal telling one to LEAVE! Wine & Roses/Caravan tops. A stunning collection of stars performing LIVE! Sonny is not playing, but you can hear his tenor in there. Sound quality first class. Buy it! Treasure it! I do!
