At the age of 13, inspired by the likes of The Echoing Green, Joy Electric, and my 16 bit Super Nintendo games, I took to my families long neglected keyboard and began to write my first songs. I found the synthesizer at the end of the dark hallway in our house, strangely out of place as it was shoved into a corner that was not meant to be a home to anything. The old machine was cheap and displayed an impressive collection of aging dust, but over the next several years this new companion and I would produce over 60 songs as my love to create unfurled it's wings and took flight.
Synthpop is what I play, although it is often mistaken for techno. Electronic would definitely be accurate, coupled with perhaps ecclectic and occasionally even a little off the deep end psychosis. Rhythmic Symphony is most accurately a collection of my thoughts, ponderings, and theories carried in the vehicle of my artistic _expression. I cringe at the idea of using drum loops that I or someone that I'm working with didn't create, or just pressing the button that does it all for me, so everything you hear, besides synthesizing the instruments themselves, is homegrown right in my bedroom.

Rhythmic Symphony soars to new synthpop heights!
author: Ronn Hubbard Jr.
I picked up Rhythmic Symphony's debut EP after hearing the 4 tracks on Section 44's 4X4, Vol. 2. This is an amazing debut CD from this new artist. The Joey Belville (The Echoing Green) produced track, Self-Possessed, is awesome. The lyrics are very well written and the music has an intensity that speaks to the listener on a personal level. Synthpop often comes across as cold and artificial, but not Rhythmic Symphony! The other 4 tracks are great as well, especially Dead Survivors, another well-written powerful song. This release and the tracks on the 4X4 compilation show that big things are going to come from Rhythmic Symphony and I enthusiastically await the debut album!

A very promising debut!

This is the debut EP for Rhythmic Symphony, self-released in 2005 and currently only available through Cdbaby.com. The EP features 5 original tracks, as composed by Justin Kesselring, and clocks in at just under 25 minutes. Justin isn't ashamed to name his influences up front, as he cites both The Echoing Green and Joy Electric as heavy influences in the first sentence of his Bio on his website. Like those bands, there's a definite spiritual slant to the songs here.
The vocals are very smooth and engaging here, and the chirpy, cheerful synths in tracks such as "Self-Possessed" and "Morocco" make the songs not only catchy but very danceable. That's not to say this is all Erasure-esque fare though, as both "Darkness Rising" and "Whisperings" bring in a De/Vision-type darkness into the mix that's very interesting. The final track, "Dead Survivors", sounds like it's a Echoing Green b-side. By that, I mean it sounds like it was written by Joey B. of TEG, both in the music and lyrics. A really cool song!
Overall this is a solid and very promising EP. I think that fans of Declaration or EG will definitely find a lot to love here. Recommended!
