Album Notes

"This album is to music what John Sayles' "The Secret of Roan Inish" is to film: an enduring folk tale, rich with timeless images. Inspired and original....an album of gravity and substance, haunting in its charm - memorable in the grandeur of its effortless simplicity."
Two Louies Magazine

"Brown first demonstrated this amazing scope on her first CD, "Do Not Stare," and she continues to amaze on her new CD "Jonah Days." Over the course of 12 tracks, Brown spins out strange, unsettling stories about fate, bad timing, grand disappointments, cosmic punishments and the blurred line between dream and waking. Brown doesn't make it easy, but she makes it well worthwhile. A few times through Jonah Days and you'll agree."
The Portland Alliance

"Brown's songs have been described as catchy alt-pop, but they're darker and subtler than that. Many of them have a twist that catches you by surprise... dawning awareness that things aren't what they seem."
The Oregonian

"Candid and diverse."

Oy Vey! This is a great CD. If you like well-written songs sung by a serious talent, you should own this CD. The songs are smart-assed, funny, sad, well read, hopeful and defiant. Rachel's voice is really world class. The band is killer and if you are musician, don't be jealous, just listen and learn. You will be happier and healthier for it.

Yay! More great songs!

After listening to Jonah Days for 3 days straight, I've got to say that this is a terrific CD. It has even more of what I loved on her first CD—good singing, an amazing variety of styles, great instrumental licks, and lyrics that grab you at once, and then slowly sink in and nudge you a few weeks later with an "Oh! So that's what she meant!" And how she can do that with such succinct texts I'll never know...they are juicy enough on first hearing! It just goes to show that her debut album was no fluke, but the first expression of her continuing talent. I'm grateful she is continuing to share it with the rest of us. There's a lot of wisdom in these songs. My current favorite track is Trick, but history shows that I'll have several more favorites before I'm done!

Randy Newman Should Sue You!!!
author: chris robley

Jonah Days comes in nice shiny shrink wrap and has beautiful artwork on the cover. Oh, and the music... some of the best tunes being written in the Northwest right now. These songs are smart, funny, dark, melodic, twisting, unpredictable. Actually, I think randy newman might have penned them and paid rachel to produce and sing. Jonah Days is an eclectic tension-and-release collection that somehow maintains its focus and core despite flying in a thousand directions at once. Way to go. Can't wait for the next one.
