ABOUT ROBBIN THOMPSON

Robbin Thompson has a unique claim to history. He was one of the only performers to ever actually sing in front of Bruce Springsteen. That was in the early '70's when he was lead singer in an early Springsteen group called Steel Mill.

Thompson's career and noteworthiness, however, extend far beyond those roots. In the years since, he has released 8 albums, won THE AMERICAN SONG FESTIVAL twice, written songs with EAGLES bassist Timothy B.Schmit, and established himself as a gifted performer, songwriter, and studio vocalist. He is also an Equity actor.

Currently, Robbin is the Vice President and co-founder of IN YOUR EAR MUSIC AND RECORDING SERVICES in Richmond, Virginia. A company that writes and produces music for commercials and films.

ONE STEP AHEAD OF THE BLUES includes songs with backing vocals by TIMOTHY B.SCHMIT OF THE EAGLES,performances by DAVE MATTHEWS BAND keyboardist BUTCH TAYLOR and a song called ORANGE MOON that was recorded in SHANGHAI CHINA featuring traditional chinese instruments.

Also included is a previously unreleased song by BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN called TRAIN SONG.

  • Great style for RT to show his stuff!
    author: Gay Catania

I am a blues/jazz fan and a huge Robbin Thompson fan...so how could I find one dang thing wrong with this one. The blues and Robbin's voice and style go together extremely well. And you cannot rate a RT CD without mentioning the explemary songwriting - awesome stuf! We need some song books Robbin!

You can't go wrong with this CD. Every song on it is a gem.

Used this CD and the other three for our 4th of July party. Music playing on the front and back porches. Everybody including the passers-by really enjoyed. Actually one guy stopped and asked about the artist. Turned him on to Robbin Thompson and CD BABY. Also had folks from Roanoke there. Great memories of fun at the Coffee Pot.

  • Amazing!

I am very new to Robbin's music and heard one song and decided to buy the cd. I LOVE when I buy a cd for one song and end up liking the ENTIRE disc!!! Orange Moon is such a great visually strong song. One Step Ahead of the Blues is one that I have to listen to daily as well. Great work Robbin. Look forward to diving into the rest of your collection!!! Thanks for putting out great music :o)

  • Can't get enough!

I love the diversity of Robbin's music. My favorites on this one are 'wouldn't wanna be you', 'a little taste' and 'orange moon'. I hope there's more coming and I'm looking forward to seeing Robbin live at Kerrville.

  • More great Robbin Thompson Music!

If you loved the Robbin Thompson Band, or his Out on the Chesapeake CD, you will love this CD just as much. If you have never heard of Robbin Thompson, get this one and Two B's Please and you will be a fan forever.

  • I thought the CD was good.
    author: Butch Page

I have been a RT fan since as a teenager when I bought 2 B's Please. I liked the CD. As a accoustic guitar player I learned Chesapeak Moon but there is a location mentioned in the song I can't pick out. I wish the words had come with the CD. If I could get those it would be nice. Have a good one. (Ride the Rappahannock down xxx xxx point xxxx???)

  • Genius !!
    author: Mark A. Moore

Robbin Thompson continues to outdo himself with each new release. Vocals and musicianship don't get any better than this ... heartfelt and soulful. And beyond the recordings themselves, Robbin can strip this stuff down to a one-man, one-guitar show that will blow you away. Here's hoping RT and his "usual suspects" -- including Timothy B. Schmit -- will always find time to work together. Counting down to the RTB Reunion ... 'Bring us back those days'!!

  • FANTASTIC CD!!
    author: Mark Jochim

To be honest, I bought the CD mainly for the version of "Train Song", having first heard it through those old Steel Mill tapes. But I was pleasantly surprised at how fantastic the entire CD is. There really isn't a bad song on it and my favorite changes all the time. "Orange Moon" is particularly enjoyable for me, having visited Shanghai back in June the song brought back some pleasant memories. I will definitely be checking out more of Robbin Thompson's music.

  • Great Stuff !! Thanks Robbin

Robbin's an original -- great writing and great vocals (and terrific guitar by Velpo Robertson).

  • Even better than my first one(if THAT is possible)
    author: Ginny Ford

I LOVE the versatility of Robbin's music. He writes about any and everything with beautiful and catchy lyrics.. A true treasure.. Can you actually wear a CD out from listening to it OVER AND OVER?? Another winner from Robbin :O)

  • Superb!!

Great music by a very talented artist. I love it!

  • A CD to feel good about
    author: Ian Wright

This is my first Robbin Thompson CD. I was attracted to him via the Bruce Springsteen connection. Thank goodness I was as this CD is a real bottler. It is a great representation of the blues and one to which you should just sit down and listen to and feel really good about. He is so easy to listen to and has many good stories to tell. The Timothy B Schmidt backing vocals are worth the purchase price alone

  • Great Stuff!!
    author: Jeff DeLaurentis

Every once in a while an artist will just reach out and grab you! This how I felt on the very first sample I heard! I purchased this CD right away and can't wait to get it. As a fellow musician and CD Baby Artist, its great to see this type of quality music being offered! Hats off to you Robbin!!

  • Awesome!!! Buy it, you won't be disappointed!!!!
    author: Barbara M Richmond VA

This CD has to be one of Robbin Thompson's greatest yet! I usually select a favorite song on a CD, but in this case, they are all so good that all 10 are my favorites!!!! If you buy this CD, you truly will not be disappointed...and it makes a great gift too!
