Album Notes

A message from one of Ruby’s newest fans following her recent performance at House of Blues New Orleans where her trio opened for Heart:

“When I saw “Ruby Rendrag” was opening for my all time favorite band I thought, God, how can I sit through some lame opening act? I was totally impressed with your unique trio of Guitar, Cello and Drums and everyone around me thought you Rocked!! I can’t wait to make it to your next show!”

It seems like anytime a woman straps on an acoustic guitar, most people have preconceived notions about what is to come. Ruby Rendrag enjoys nothing more than shattering those assumptions while delivering soulful, artfully composed and skillfully performed music.

Is Ruby Rendrag a pop singer/songwriter? Well, if Superman is any indication, she could easily find a mass audience with that song’s seductive melody, simmering arrangement and compelling vocal. Is she a folk singer?

Meditation starts as a bouncing folk-pop tune, with lyrics that are revealing of both Ruby’s vulnerability and strength. Is Ruby Rendrag a rocker? One need only listen to the rest of Meditation to know she rocks as hard as vintage Led Zeppelin.

Ruby's Trio is as exhilarating live as she is accomplished in the studio. There is energy without histrionics, swagger without arrogance, and joy without pretense. When you see Ruby live, you get to watch a musician who genuinely loves what she's doing.

Ruby Rendrag does not indulge in the self-deception so many singer-songwriters exploit to seduce listeners. Instead, her self-assured vocals carry forth a fully realized person to her listeners, not a saint, demon nor martyr. Listen and you will know: Ruby Rendrag is the truth.

Stellar performance, I love this CD. Ruby plays guitar like she was born with it in her hands. Masterful. Her easy seduction is intoxicating. She is my superman.
