For this record I wanted to try something new. As a “surf” guitarist there are many opportunities to crank up the old Fender up and make some cool noise. But for this record I wanted to feature the horns.
I played trumpet in high school and college. As a horn player my self, I appreciate the huge sound that you can make with four trumpets, four trombones and five saxes. Nick Lane and Gary Meek did great jobs with their musical arrangements. Most of the same musicians from the “Surf Kings” are also featured on this big band extravaganza.
But this record also has a wonderful singer named Craig S. Martino. He sings the beautiful lyrics of Brandon J. Miller.
Together we wrote the songs that we felt represented the glory days of the Las Vegas. These are songs that might be sung by Frank Sinatra or Tony Bennett. So there is a retro feel to the record. Just as there is with the “Rudy and the Surf Kings” records.
I hope you enjoy it.
