Album Notes

Rudy Peirce, MA, a certified yoga teacher since 1982, is a perennial student of the yoga of life. He is devoted to approaching the practice of yoga as an exploration. Dedicated to making yoga accessible to those who may feel they are inflexible, weak, broken or over-the-hill, he offers Gentle Yoga programs regularly at Kripalu Center in Lenox, MA and yoga vacations to Costa Rica and Tuscany. A faculty member of the Kripalu School of Yoga, he has been a yoga teacher trainer since 1988.

This is the first CD of the Gentle Series set, which expands every few years with new sequences. These are clearly detailed, guided yoga experiences designed to allow beginning and experienced students alike, to practice the initial forms of yoga.
Based on the yogic principle of ahimsa, non-violence, the Gentle Series approach to yoga encourages you to create comfort in the body and a calm easy breath.
In this gentle yoga practice you will deepen body awareness, learn effective relaxation techniques, increase breath capacity and practice concentration.

This CD contains an 80 minute experience that can be practiced in either of its 2, 40 minute parts.

I am an ex NYC couch potato that bought this alblum when visiting Kripalu about 5 years ago. I have used it for days to weeks at a time many times over the years and cannot say enough for how calming and gentle it is. I am now 64 y/o retired to Maine. I tell friends that the effect of this work is more like geriatric stretching than the beginning yoga I've known. I've bought other beginners' yoga tapes/CDs/DVDs and they are NEVER for aged beginners or inactive middle aged folk. This is. The second side is a bit more strenuous than the first (for which you never get off your back); nonetheless, a natural follow on to side one. If you want gentle, beginner, or just kind and nurturing, this is it! I own Gentle II but have never used it, though I know I will one day.
