"Lynn Ruehlmann’s stories of childhood zoom kids and adults back in time to their own memories of figuring out the world. The tales make you laugh yet remind you to take seriously the vulnerability of the young. I find myself in Lynn's child characters as well as in the adults she portrays, and I come away wiser," says Marni Gillard, author and storyteller.
National storyteller Andy Offutt Irwin says, "Lynn does this . . . this magical thing. She utterly transforms herself into the characters she's telling about. She becomes a little girl. She becomes those clunky grown-ups. We see mirthful and wise Lynn herself, in all stages of life, bringing us along."
This CD, "Mischief!" is a collection of six stories about being a child from 4 through 8 years old. In the course of the stories, she gets so crabby she makes the dining room ceiling fall down, she dances to Gene Vincent, she conquers her fear of the school bully, and she locks herself in the bathroom at a Chinese Restaurant and sings at the top of her lungs.
The stories are each introduced by spirited, surprising music by renowned folk musicians, Bob Zentz and Jeanne McDougall.
By the end of the CD, you feel the delight of having met and gotten to know this little girl and her quirky take on life, and you understand and appreciate your own childhood just a little better. And you've just plain had a good laugh.

The child in Lynn's stories is innocent, funny, and true. She brings her to life so vividly that as a listener I envisioned the action through the eyes of the child I once was; and while her stories are uniquely hers, I was taken back to some sweet or awkward times in my own past -- making a baby cry, writing on the wall, playing a trick on a grownup, making up games in response to boredom, bewilderment with grownups and the ways they amuse themselves.
This a collection of little jewels.
