Mutate is the predecessor to the breakthrough crossover follow up 'Liquor Store, Laundromat, Chinese Restaurant' (also available on CDbaby.com) from the Boston based band RUMBLE Syndicate. This release features the singles "Powertrip" & "Despondent" which received airplay all across the country on college radio. Both tracks are very different, and this is indicative of the album as well.
At times the disc has a Rage Against the machine feel (Powertrip, Absolution), but often switches gears on tracks like Bone Deep & Teardrop Tattoo to a slow, dirging groove ala Alice in Chains or Soundgarden. Filling out the mixed bag on Mutate are uptempo rockers like 7 Year Sleep & Totem Pole that lay down a solid a foundation, and a hidden track that is difficult to describe and must be heard by the listener to adequately sum it up. Let me just say, the band has a sense of humour on top of the serious lyrics that carry throughout Mutate, and that is a GOOD thing.
Their live show is just as powerful and energetic as the album. Pick up a copy of Mutate today, and SUPPORT THE CONSPIRACY!!!

A surprising breath of fresh air

This is GREAT! I was not expecting it to sound so contemporary. For some reason I was thinking grunge. It is not, it could be on radio right next to tool & Disturbed.
Favorite tune is Power Trip, & then Totem Pole 2nd fav!
