"Musically confident and emotionally vulnerable. His lyrics are refreshing and pleasantly unusual."
BILLBOARD
"Rundman is an inspired power-pop dynamo"
PERFORMING SONGWRITER
"Bright, Midwestern-flavored folk pop that weaves a wary songwriter's vision of suburban America. His songs sport the same clever lyrical turns that were the hallmark of '80s new wave folk legends Timbuk 3 - both share the same sense of irony about everyday life. Rundman stirs memories of '80s simple-pleasure acoustic-driven pop bands like the dBs, the Del Fuegos, or the Windbreakers, and if you get these references, you shouldn't miss this guy."
OMAHA READER
"On the road for most of the year and releasing a prodigious output of albums, Jonathan Rundman is a one-man cottage industry although he shouldn't have to be. His accessible and crafty pop-rock has a spiritual bent, tailor-made for fans of Elvis Costello and Marshall Crenshaw."'
CHICAGO DAILY HERALD
"Angst-filled, garage-rock that Winona Ryder would swoon over"
SIOUX FALLS ARGUS LEADER
"Exploring charged-up power pop, alternative country, classical and sacred music structures, new wave, and other experimental instrumentation within an acoustic rock framework, Rundman has garnered much acclaim, and for good reason."
SILICON VALLEY METRO
"Singer/songwriter Rundman adopts a rootsy flavor for his melodic pop material. A gritty melodicist in the tradition of Paul Westerberg, his songs occasionally recall artists like Green On Red and Giant Sand as well."
ALL MUSIC GUIDE
"Scrappy musicianship and clever songwriting"
PASTE MAGAZINE
Singer-songwriter Jonathan Rundman, who built a full-time touring career as a Chicago-based folk-rock troubadour, has relocated to Minneapolis and has completed his new album. The CD, titled Public Library, will be released on Salt Lady Records on October 5th, 2004.
The album was produced by Walter Salas-Humara of acclaimed Americana band The Silos, and features The Silos and other New York indie-rock luminaries as Rundman's backing band.
Public Library is a pristine and hi-fi departure for Rundman, whose previous releases have been mostly homemade 4-track bedroom recordings. With expert guidance from producer Salas-Humara, Rundman's 11 new original songs were captured during creativity-inspiring studio sessions in Madison, WI and New York City.
A balance of Americana and Power Pop arrangements, the album frames Rundman's distinctively unusual lyrics and multi-tracked harmony vocals with rocking drums, jangly guitars, Hammond organ, lap steel, and even a string quartet. Rundman himself anchors the instrumentation with acoustic guitar and Wurltizer electric piano.
Rundman's songwriting has earned much critical acclaim since he began his full-time touring career in 1996. His three previous solo albums have been likened to the work of other Midwest natives such as Paul Westerberg, Liz Phair, Marshall Crenshaw, and Matthew Sweet.

reincarnation of Marshall Crenshaw ???
author: bob mcconnaugey
Produced by the long time leader of the Silos, the sound and intelligence of the lyrics bring Crenshaw to mind. The best songs are very good indeed...imaginatively different in topic and tone. *Smart Girls*...sincerly praising the obvious; another from the POV of a librarian, who revels in spreading organization, knowledge and namechecks Andrew Carnegie - instrumental in founding numerous public and college libraries; another, the poignant "Second Language" from the POV of a migrant worker in Texas. There are a couple of clunkers...the last song, unfortunately, redoes the "road" theme that was overdone when CCR wrote "Lodi." But the infectious melodies, good heart and heartfelt, yet still clever, lyrics make Public Library a joy.
