Album Notes

Rupert Leighton

Rupert Leighton was born in Guildford, England in 1986.

As a child he was more interested in sport than music.

For his twelfth birthday he was given a keyboard by his parents, which for a couple of years remained just a passing interest. However, by 14, he had become more interested in music and discovered that he could play the keyboard by ear. He listened to various pianists and taught himself the rudiments of blues and jazz piano. After upgrading his keyboard he started composing his own tunes with bass lines, drums and other instruments.

At the age of 16 he did his first live performance and played in several school concerts where he surprised many people with his talent. Having never had a piano lesson in his life, many people didn't know of his ability. A few months later he started playing gigs in clubs and at private parties. Influenced by his parents' vast record collection, he also began to experiment with more funky electronic sounds. His compositions continued to improve and become more complex, inspired by artists such as Prince, Johnny Guitar Watson, Herbie Hancock, Spyrogyra, St.Germain.

After moving to the countryside, he set up a studio where he could concentrate on music full time. His work now encompasses many different styles, punctuated by skilful piano solos. All compositions are produced and arranged at his studio making him an extremely talented one-man band.

'Beyond Reflection' is his first album to be promoted on radio and is the product of his last year's work. It is available to buy at www.rupertleighton.com

He believes "music should be uplifting and make people feel good, as well as being interesting and different to listen to."

Smooth Jazz WGRV - Melbourne, FL
author: Randy
Not bad....a couple of the song have potential, some are way to funky for smooth jazz radio. I am an agressive music programmer and like to give new artists a chance...SO we are adding #7 "Moving On" to our smooth jazz playlist this week to see how our listeners like it. On a personal note....I would like to hear a remix of "Moving On" without the electronic parts. The piano and the beat is great without the funky electro sounds. EMAIL: Randy@TheGroove.org

Great blend of Jazz, Smooth Jazz and Chill
author: A.L.
Beyond Reflection offers an exciting blend of electronic jazz and chill. For an 18 year-old to have compiled such a well produced collection of grooves with impressive jazz chops, really suggests that we can expect big things from this artist. A highly recommended CD for the casual jazz/chill fans to the seasoned jazz aficionados.
