Expected nothing less than the best from Russ, and got it! This CD is so great...terrific songs, great lyrics, easy to get into and love right from the start. My favorite so far is "Before These Jeans Were Faded", but I really love "Door #3" and "Letter to God" too. Of course "You and I" is just too special for words! Keep 'em coming Russ! We love ya!

Great Voice!

Russ has an amazing voice, and an undeniable charisma that comes through in all his music. His lyrics are honest and heartfelt and
express experiences and emotions that most people can relate to, without becoming overly sentimental. We heard him perform these songs
live recently, but forgot to pick up an album on the way out - so here I am! Way to go Russ on your new CD - it's really great!!

GREAT, GREAT CD!

Everything about this album is tremendous. The songs, the production, the inspired vocal performances, everything.
Every song is a gem, but my favorites seem to come along halfway thru the CD. Starting with "What If", a haunting song in 3/4 with a bridge that is unforgettable. Russ' vocal harmonies are intricately woven and create a surreal effect as he sings "these voices in my head".
"Beautiful Soul" is just a beautiful song inside and out. I can't get the melody of the chorus out of my head.
"Letter to God" starts out as an innocent pop song by evolves into a gospel tag (ending) that is probably my favorite part of the album. This is the longest song on the CD, but it could have gone on another 10 minutes as far as I'm concerned.
"Take My Heart" grabbed me the first time I heard it. It's a perfectly constructed pop song with an unforgettable hook. As a song in its entirety, it's my favorite on the CD.
And finally, the last song on the CD,
"You and I" almost had me in tears. It starts off with an old 45 of Russ' dad and his brothers singing a song he wrote in 1958, scratches and all. About a minute into it, Russ expertly blends in his own vocals and guitar, replete with background assistance from Russ' 3 children. It's a emotionally poignant moment and an amazing way to close the CD.
Thanks for the songs!!!
