Album Notes

born in maine,in 1949. played rock and roll in through high school. became interested in country music,at about 16 yrs old. met the maine ledend,"dick curless" at age 16,and remained friends with him until his death in may of 1995.
at age 16,russ turned his talents to country music, but still played rock and roll for the money. country music now took up most of his time,as he honed his skills, taking styles from the great merle haggard, dick curless, and waylon jennings.russ has played through out the state of maine, was made a pioneer of maine country music in 1999,by performing on the "maine country music pioneer show" held each year in augusta, maine. the legendary "rusty rogers" said of russ"he sounds, and reminds me, of one of the son's of the pioneers". although at 6' 3" and 240 lbs.russ is somewhat of a shy person,he prefers to be out in the country,as opposed to the city. he likes to go out and listen to friends perform, have friends over for coffee, and just sit back and relax.

Refreshing
author: Joan Cole, PTSCMA
This CD is truely refreshing. It is hard these days to find a CD that is what I consider COUNTRY.Also the background and the vocals blend together so well. You can tell all involved are true PROFESSIONALS. It is a Cd that all country music lovers should have.

Pure, genuine country without the overproduced slickness of today's 'modern' sou
author: Pete Thayer
Here is a most excellent collection of pure and genuine country songs, with a classic, authentic delivery and none of the overproduced slickness of today's 'modern sound'. Russ covers territory from reflective ballads to romping truckers, and his heartfelt vocals along with the strong musicianship do each and every one proud. This album is the real deal, thankfully - a fine release!

A great effort...reminiscent of the classic country era
author:
I'm really glad I took a chance on this one, because it takes into account everything I like about certain styles of music.....the honesty. No slick trendy production here....just a genuine set of great classic country tunes by a guy who obviously knows what he's doing and has a story to tell in each song.....tellin' it straight. He has obviously found some meaningful life identity in each song he chose to include on the disc. Dedicated country music fans will relate. To boot, there's also some serious guitar playing on this disc. Looks like Russ Connell brought some worthy friends in to the studio to kick up a serious effort that I'm really starting to enjoy more and more with each listen. Run, don't walk, to get this one.
