Where has Nashville been hiding this guy. He sings some songs on this album better than the original artist. "Woverton Mountain" knocked my socks off and I know Claude King personally. Rusty is a great musician also and I think some major label should be putting him on their brand. Crazy, the way he sings it, must make Willie Nelson jealous as hell, for Rusty is so much different than Patsy that it makes the song new again, and Ole Willie could never sing as good as this guy. Another cut I really liked was the cover of George IV's performance of "Abilene." The only thing that could be better than this CD would be for hime to put out another with the old country songs on it.

They sure don\'t make albums that sound like this any more. Rusty York is an old timer, and this album was recorded about 45 years ago. Listening to it is a bit like getting into a time machine; you can hear the pop and hiss of the vinyl, from which this album was apparently transferred. This album presents a great look at the old-time country and western, rock and roll, and rockabilly for which Rusty York became a member of the Rockabilly Hall of Fame, and played the Grand Ole Opry. The charm and nostalgia of this album can\'t help but infect your bones and warm your heart, or even break it, on a few songs. As the album\'s liner notes modestly claim, he\'s \"a boy whose ability to pick, sing and write country music is as natural as the sun coming up in the morning.\" And that claim isn\'t exaggerated. He\'s got a great voice, a little like Bobby Darin or other teen idols of the early 60s, but he operates in the country/western milieu, with great success. Just pop this album into your car stereo, roll the windows down, and let Rusty\'s easy-going, heartfelt songs be your soundtrack; it\'s a great experience. For country music lovers, it\'s an essential and admirable look at the genre\'s history.
