Cerise is made up of two extremely talented Northwest musicians, Ruthie Dornfeld (violin) and Ruth Hunter (accordion, vocals and tambura). Their new release is a dazzling panorama of pan-European folk music that travels through Finland, visits Brittany and the French countryside, and then lingers in Macedonia, Bulgaria and Greece. Along the way it picks up some fine traveling companions, such as Christos Govetas (clarinet, percussion), Reuben Radding (upright bass), Elyce Tajima-Woycke (vocals), and Forrest Gibson (guitar). A truly memorable recording worthy of many repeat listens. Ron Reed (Dusty Strings)

From the 5/8 and 7/8 lilting, exotic embellishments of Balkan folk music to the proud, pick-up-your-skirt tunes from the hills of Finland with stops in between in Macedonia, Greece, Brittany and rural France, the combined musical efforts of these two women, with their accordion, fiddle and voice talents, joined by clarinet, upright bass, percussion and guitar, builds a stunning collection of folk music. With over 60 years combined traveling and performing experience between the two of them, these veteran musicians bring a carefully refined, yet wise voice to these timeless folk songs from diverse but strikingly-similar regions of Europe.

Very well constructed and executed selections
author: Mary from Milwaukee
This collection of music is an interesting study of the variations of mode use by diverse cultures within Europe. The continuity of these songs comes from the musicians, who work very well together within their ensemble. The melodies are haunting and refined. All in all, this is a "must-have" for any folk music enthusiast who appreciates fine musicianship.
