Album Notes

"...a haunting voice, a heightened literary sensibility, and a passion for exploring the mysteries of his deep musical soul..."

-- David Ritz (Grammy Award-winning author and co-writer of Marvin Gaye's "Sexual Healing")

"Five O'Clock News" is a collection of beautiful tunes driven by Ryan Scott's incomparable and heartfelt voice. This is music that pushes and pulls down the middle of soul and jazz, back up through the unwinding strands of post-folk and rock, and lands, sometimes sweetly and softly and sometimes with a resounding smash, right in the center of your chest.

From the melancholy soft lullaby of the title track, to the head-nodding-fonk-meets-shimmering-lyricism of the lead single, "You, Girl", to the easy-rollin uptempo guitar jam, "You Might Change Your Mind", Ryan creates music that is, to quote one MySpace fan, "like a gingerbread cookie straight out of the oven with smooth creamy jams on top. His music makes your heart putter and your ears warm."

Legendary producer and engineer Rob Fraboni (Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan, Eric Clapton) joined the project to create a disc with a singular character all classic albums inevitably possess.

REVIEWS

Anyways Cafe

This isn't much of a review as it is testament to Ryan Scott's ability to captivate with his music. I live in Chicago. I visited New York for a weekend, and some friends brought me to the Anyways Cafe to see their friend Ryan perform. I could barely eat my crepes with my jaw on the floor the whole time. Ever since I've kept my eye on Ryan's CrystalTop site, and his myspace site, waiting for the debut to come out...and I haven't been disappointed. Thanks Ryan.

I'm not usually one to impulse buy, but when I heard a sample of "Five O'Clock News", I just HAD to buy the CD straight away, I was so excited to have found something so brilliant. I'm loving every second of it. Ryan's style is funky, feelgood, heartfelt, smoldering and laced with something electric....! I've never heard a voice more beguiling, haunting, soulful, beautiful. Truly a great album.

I remember heading into the Anyway Cafe one night and hearing this new guy playing Saturday nights there...and as he sang covers of Prince songs, Stevie Wonder, the Beatles, etc, I was like "this man better have a CD..." Well, now he does and it just makes me happy. Scott does a great acoustic set, but hearing what can be done with a full band and electrics...Ryan Scott has some serious skills, a tight band, and is putting those jazz, soul, and funk influences to great light. Don't pass up this CD...it'll make ya wanna watch for the evolution of Ryan Scott.
