Album Notes

Ry Edwards is all about Melody, Dynamic, and Rhythm; these key ingredients make his music; what he terms his “Modern Folk Rock.”

Inspired by his singing mother and two guitar-playing uncles, Edwards began singing at an early age—-quickly learning that performing is fun! During high school one uncle gave him a classical, acoustic guitar and soon he was entertaining at every family event.

When Ry went to college the guitar came along and in the Dorms the two (Ry + Guitar) met floormate and fellow guitarist, Joe Nicola. Soon after, Edwards and Nicola were playing in the halls, on the mall, in the cafeteria, and at every outdoor concert at Minnesota State University Moorhead. They both knew they would record in the near future.

Edwards' CD “Mirage,” produced in 2007, is a debut, but feels similar to a greatest hits collection and features many songs that were voted onto the album by fans. Having written over 500 songs (75 of which are ready for recording) Edwards chose from 30 potentials drawing a skillful balance between melody-driven and riff-driven songs that display an array of his sounds.

Edwards is under the influence of all kinds of music—-from the Everly Brothers and James Taylor, to John Mayer and Dave Matthews Band, to Smashing Pumpkins and Metallica. If you add in some rhythms from Celtic music, Motown, Jazz, and Indie Rap you might get some idea of what he’s about. Some songs may sound like Neil Young, while others are more like Linkin Park, but it all goes back to a Melody you can remember, Dynamics that draw you in, and a Rhythm that evokes a mood.
