Zapstar

If you haven't listened to Zapstar, you're missing a great jazz experience. The first few bars of the opening selection "On the Street Where You Live" really get your attention. Rebeccas's hauntingly sweet voice, together with bassist Chelsea Chason's excellent accompanying work, was compellingly ear catching and the soft way the piece "drives" keeps you wanting to hear more, and more there is that is so worthwhile and enjoyable. Comparing Rebecca's voice to others may be an okay thing to do but I feel she and her talent put her in a class by herself. Also, can't say enough for the others heard on Zapstar. Gary Starling's liquidy smoothness on the guitar is equally pleasing and Peter Miles work on the drums is as crisp as celery in a delicious, savory salad all of which is so very well served up in Zapstar. Plans to purchase other of this group's recorded work are in place and will be eagerly acted on when Rebecca, Gary, Chelsea and Peter put together another recording.

I agree that this is an excellent album. I liked HUMMINGBIRD even better as the vocals and violin are my favorite things on both the albums, and they seemed more in the forefront on HUMMINGBIRD. I like the more traditional, unadorned kinds of jazz music, rather than the swinging kind with a lot of bass and other instruments. The selections on both albums were fine, and I truly enjoyed the original compositions, which I often do not! A great talent here.
