Steve Abercrombie
Steve Abercrombie is a recent transplant to Athens, GA. Previously from the West Georgia/Atlanta area, Abercrombie spent many years performing locally with numerous rock and experimental acts in addition to national touring as the bass player for Blueground Undergrass.
Steve takes part of his philosophy on music from bassist Mike Watt. Watt who is often quoted as saying \"Punk is what we made it to be\", and “we jam econo\". Abercrombie firmly believes that music is only limited by the imagination, and that what you do with the resources you have is much more important than having unlimited resources. Armed with an acoustic guitar, a keyboard, drum machine and a bass Abercrombie has recorded 4 solo discs.
\"Then the Shell Cracked\" from the 2005 CD \"Balancing Act\" won garageband.com track of the day for both folk and experimental genres.
\"Flow of Motion\", a lo-fi latin inspired pop song and the Beck influenced \"Drifter Bees with Bony Knees\" received internet radio rotation as a digital single. Both of those songs were from his 2006 release \"Gamma Ray Burst\". Also released in 2006 was the CD \"Shout out to the Sun\" which contained many songs that became centerpieces of his live shows.
His latest CD \"Gone\" is a folk centric effort. It features several tracks about change and loss and serves as a document of a significant shift in Steve\'s creative evolution. The sparse arrangements of \"Gone\" were recorded by Blueground Undergrass guitarist Matthew Williams in his Carrollton, GA studio. WHAY 98.3 FM in Whitley City, KY recently featured 4 tracks from Gone on it\'s Local Long Distance radio show.

“Steve Abercrombie is a crafter of experimental folk that inspires euphoric feelings among listeners. It’s evocative and hypnotic and every piece boasts the mark of a true artist. Abercrombie long ago decided to always be creative and refuse to write music that is derivative. Abercrombie has his own things to say and doesn’t want to shallowly repeat another’s musical message. The old saying is that there is nothing new under the sun but Abercrombie’s work disproves that.” – A&R Select
