Album Notes

Born in French Algiers, Sabine immigrated to the United States from France at the age of five, spending her formative years in Santa Barbara, Calfornia. At the age of twenty, she left Santa Barbara, travelling and living throughout the U.S. She returned to Santa Barbara some twenty years later where she currently resides and plans to remain until she turns to dust.

Sabine attributes her inherent interest and love of music to the influences of her Mother, a classically trained pianist and her late sister, Christine, who was a gifted folk musician. Her family tree includes a number of classical musicians and artists. As a teenager she was drawn to the sounds of the Beatles, Marvin Gaye, Smokey Robinson, Aretha Franklin, Janis Joplin, Cream, Jimmy Hendrix, and the Eagles. Her musical influences grew over the years to include the country sounds of Alison Krauss, Vince Gill and Trisha Yearwood. This eventually led to a focus on singer/songwriter material performed by a variety of musicians such as Eliza Gilkyson, Kris Delmhorst, Michael Lillie, Sheryl Crow, Kenny Edwards, Patty Griffin, Annie Gallup, Kate Wallace, Jimmy McVay, and John McVay to name just a few. Sabine is a new singersongwriter to join the modern folk scene.

Sabine's CD is magnificent. The songs are well chosen and the lyrics evoke much psychological nuance. With every new play, this CD takes on greater and more personal meaning. Her voice is at once soothing, sensual and familiar. I am not a musician but, I know what I love, and I love this CD! I do have the wonderful privilege of knowing Sabine and she is as beautiful as is her music. You will be inviting a new dimension to your listening when you hear Sabine and listen closely.

“Walk a Mile” is the kind of album I can listen to over and over and never get tired of it. It is gorgeous in every way. Not only does Sabine Blanchard have a beautiful, sensuous voice, but her choice of songs – both orginals and covers – is simultaneously moving and intelligent. Still, the most remarkable thing about this album, to me, is her very low-key yet intensely emotional interpretation of every song. I have never heard anyone “own” a song like Sabine can…without any kind of “drama.” There is a perfect simplicity in her delivery that allows the full emotional complexity of every song to come across in all its unforgettable truth.
