The praise and worship songs of Kiev Pechesk Lavra is unique and precious heritage of the Orthodox sacred choral music. The origin of this singing is in XI century. Lavra's praise and worship songs organically synthesize Byzantine tradition and folk-singing culture. Under the influence of south-Slavic tunes Lavra's way of singing gained a power and became one of bright characteristics of Orthodox world.

    This is an excellent introduction to Eastern sacred music via songs from eight different albums. On its own terms (not merely as an anthology), the album is a winner. The selections flow well into each other, creating a pleasing whole. Even the one modernist piece is not out of place. Each selection on its own is well worth listening to. Highly recommended.

    This album is just amazing. Aside from one clunky song, and one synthesizer-heavy piece, everything is just incredible. Rich, deep, mournful, soulful, and spiritual. Especially "Sleep, O Jesus." I recommend this album.
