Sada Sat Kaur has followed up her Ajna Music debut chant sensation, Angels' Waltz, with another sublime collection of Gurmukhi mantra, Shashara. This time she's ventured even deeper into the cross pollination of western rock ambience and kundalini shakti energy.
Sada Sat's mystical alto combines with an all-star cast of transcendent players and singers to create a CD that moves from whispered intimacy to choral gospel fever. Produced by Jeremy Toback and Chad Fischer (Garden State Soundtrack), Shashara features sublime vocal counterpoint from Paula Cole, ethereal organ work from Rami Jaffee (The Wallflowers), & ambient guitar textures from Greg Leisz (kd lang & Bill Frisell). But what makes the CD so special is the way these great artists let their deeply individual voices merge to serve the greater whole of Sada Sat Kaur's trance inducing devotion.

You can't help humming or singing along with this CD!
author: Trisha
I love to sing along with this CD while driving to work each day. It's a short drive and I often sit in the car when I get to work to continue being with the beautiful, centering music. I feel it helps me have the right mindedness I want in order to best help others in my job. Even if I don't read along the meaning of the chants, I feel I absorb their meaning as I sing or hum along. Every element of this music feels comfortable, compelling, nurturing.

This album reflects two monumental sentiments: universality and elegance.
author: katia zadik
This album is without a doubt one of the best and most universal albums I have ever heard. The Emmylou Harris-sounding vocals and the contemporary rock ballad-like guitar mixed with the ancient Indian dialect of Gurmukhi is extraordinarily multi-purpose oriented. Not only will the record appeal to the singer/songwriter in you but it will also tap into the metaphysical part of you, with its mantras and helpful translations of the eloquent prayers. The harmonies are modern and sophisticated and translate beautifully with the help of Paula Cole’s softened and luscious background vocals. Another effective element of the album and one that contributes to its overall artistic value is its sophisticated artwork. The ghostly visual of Sada Sat Kaur herself on the cover is at once haunting and invigorating with its flashes of green, purple, and gold. Once flipped open, the jacket blooms with an energizing green that leads you to read the mantras, take them in, and then pop the cd in to your stereo – almost as if it was a step-by-step process to achieving serenity for the day. With all of its diverse elements, this album is one so unanimously brilliant that you will want to play it in your car or import it into your on-the-go playlist on your iPod when you go for a run. Play it at a hip metropolitan dinner party or in your bedroom right before you go to sleep. Either way, you will be struck by this record’s ability to fulfill all your musical needs.
