"Offering up a blazing musical weave of jazz, rock, and elements beyond: SADHAPPY has pushed the sonic boundaries even further on their forth c.d. release. with the addition of second bassist Michael Manring their onslaught of bottom- end driven compositions is stronger than ever" www.KCMU.org
"The Grooves are big and bad on SADHAPPY's GOOD DAY BAD DREAM" - Modern Drummer
"Two basses might sound like a recipe for disaster-- 'Jazz Odyssey' doubled up, or cheesy slap-funk duels. SADHAPPY gets around this by realizing the implicit power in the timbre of the bass guitar: the added resonance, the volcanic rumble- it's impossible to ignore, the sheer booty-shaking body. And they go for it full-bloodedly. At last, a contemporary progressive group that's unafraid to mingle technique, horror, street smarts and a mordant, lethal wit." - Misfit City, London

Power ... trio.

Wow! The power these three musicians (two basses and drums) captured is unreal. Think instrumental Primus. Think Attention Deficit (another Michael Manring band). And don't fret, you guitar fans, the generous use of electronics, sampling and overdubs here fills the sonic pallete here into much more than a drum'n'bass recital ... this sucker shrieks, booms, and and clangs!
My only complaint is the occasional spoken word/poetry/sampled voices. While meaningfully nifty on a track or two, the appearance here on several tracks becomes a little distracting and meaningless.

I recently won a contest for the new CD titled "Good Day Bad Dream" from the Seattle band "Sadhappy" featuring Michael Manring. I can't stop listening to it. This is truly a melding of various talents with Manring on fretless bass, Paul Hinklin on bass and voices and Evan Schiller on drums/samplers. I highly recommend it for anyone who has a taste for quality bass driven music. The lyrics/spoken word parts are original and funny in some cases. The total running time is 72:47 so you get alot for your $15. This is true alternative music played by the best I've heard in years...very fresh and orginal stuff...I'm hooked on Sadhappy and you will be too! Here is a link to their site http://member.aol.com/periscoper/index.html Check them and "Good Day Bad Dream" out...you will not be disappointed. The "Dude" gives Sadhappy the coveted "Bass Boner" award!!

This couldn't even be a good record for those who like jazz. With 2 bass players and no guitarists I expected an album full of great bass solos and riffs. Thats not it, there isnt any singing, just some talking sometimes which is really annoying. There are sometimes cool drumbeats but that is about it. I just expected a lot more with Mike Manring (bassist) in it. I do not recommend this to anyone.

This band will change your life

Manring adds a whole new dimension to Sadhappy's sound. Skerik's sax is missed but the double bass pounding, especially on Maintenance Pissed and Home Lobotomy Kit, more than makes up for it. Fantastic drumming and amusing reference to the ugly Hammering Man landmark outside the overpriced, disappointing SAM are highlights. I can't wait for the next one. Please tour the East Coast, guys!
