PUBLIC RECORD is the brand new release from East Village DIY songstress, poet and visual artist Rachael Sage. Self-produced by Sage and Emmy-winning producer/engineer Andy Zulla (who met the former ballerina while recording her first studio demo at age fifteen), its fourteen keyboard-driven tracks reflect an adventurousness and contemporary, feminist perspective which have earned Sage critical praise as well as a passionate grassroots following.

For her latest effort - her fifth album in almost as many years - Sage enlisted fellow New Yorkers Ben Butler (Dar Williams), Stephanie Winters (Paula Cole), Jack Petruzelli (Joan Osborne), Dean Sharp (Moby), Mike Visceglia (Suzanne Vega), Richard Gates (Patty Larkin) and Doug Yowell (Duncan Shiek) to flesh out her trademark "folk-noir" sound.

THE VILLAGE VOICE describes Rachael's music as "earthiness, color and emotion" and her piano playing has been equally praised by KEYBOARD MAGAZINE, BILLBOARD, THE BOSTON GLOBE, PERFORMING SONGWRITER and ROLLINGSTONE.COM. Having already shared stages with Sarah McLachlan, Toshi Reagon, Eric Burdon, Ani DiFranco, Richard Thompson and Sheryl Crow, Sage continues to tour the U.S. and Europe year-round. I absolutely love "Bravedancing"--it reminds me a lot of Jonatha Brooke and The Story ("Angel in the House"). The whole CD is surprisingly refreshing, with great variety of styles and amazing talent from Rachael. Great for driving!

I too am an artist on cdbaby..I have never heard anything quite as powerful as your music here! You are lyrically and vocally stunning. Sort of reminded me a little of Tori Amos..but much more honest. I wish you the best and thank you for sharing your gifts.

I am utterly speechless. I was looking at the new Idina Menzel cd when this website suggested I also try Rachael. Before tonight, I had no idea who this woman was. After hearing 30 seconds of Too Many Women, I was hooked. Then, Bravedancing had me crying so hard I had to turn down the volume before the song was over. This stuff is achingly beautiful! I am ordering this cd right now!!! Wow.
