Album Notes

THAT WAS THEN...THIS IS NOW

As songwriters with a backlog of material, we decided to mix songs we had written and recorded years ago with more recent ones on one CD. We had the 2 Inch Analog tapes, from the late eighties, early nineties, in storage and researched if there would be a way to digitize those analog tracks. We found a studio in Tucson with the capability to run off digital copies of the analog tapes.
Unfortunately, some of the tapes were so old, dating back to 1987, that they crumbled while being played. We mutually decided, with the studio's Engineer, to attempt to get the remaining tapes BAKED by a company in Phoenix hoping to salvage what we could. As it turned out, the more recent projects were salvagable and we got some nice digital copies which we took back to our studio in San Carlos, Sonora, Mexico. We had twenty four tracks to work with to remix, add instrumentation, like slide guitar, and put new vocals. Since we wanted a more up to date sound, we scrubbed much of the synthezier effects.

We also took a wonderful instrumental track and wrote new lyrics, with the help of a collaborator, Jim Berault, to make a completely different song, LOVER'S TILL THE END. The lyrics are based on how we actually met over 23 years ago.

SATISFIED MIND is a blues tune with a positive note about the way I feel about Leslie. We've had terrific response to this song and made several top ten lists on Broadjam.com

VOODOO QUEEN has a rocking, jazzy feel telling a story about a young man's life changing meeting with a dark lady.

AUSTIN WOMEN Is a rocking tribute to all the foxy ladies on 6th Street in the heart of Austin's Entertainment District where we spent many evenings performing in our old group, The Killer Tomatahs.

LET THE BLUES BEGIN is a cryin' in your beer blues. It's dark and full of despair and hopelessness from the woman who's lost the love of her life.

LOVESICK FOOL is a fiddle driven country song about someone who continues to pursue a lover even though she knows it's a lost cause.

NO RERUNS...a rockin' blues in the style of Bonnie Raitt about shedding a bad relationship using TV sitcom as a metaphor.

LUCKY LADY has a gambling theme, but deep down it's about the game of love. It will rock your socks off!

RELATIVE EMOTIONS is a collaboration with Rocket Scientist/Songwriter, Sam Rainwater. It's a driving rocker in a minor key about two people in love.

Finally, THAT WAS THEN...THIS IS NOW, the CD's title song is a country rocker in the style of Waylon Jennings about the changes life brings.

Johnny Cash meets KD Lang with a dash of Harry Nilsson
