Album Notes

The name “Sahra Indio” must be studied first before pronouncing it correctly - “Sah-Ra”. “Sahra”, means “resting place of the people” in Arabic and “Indio” is Spanish for “people” or “Indian” and was given to Sahra by a devotee of Guru Mai in California.

Sahra was born in Philadelphia to a musically complex family that included the sweet jazz of now legendary cousin, Clifford Brown who was always fostering other musicians in the family. Sahra’s grandfather insisted that she and her brother play an instrument. Sahra was stubborn and didn’t embrace the Jazz, pop and soul of her family’s home. As Sahra grew into womanhood she left her grandfather’s home and his influences.

Fortunately for her fans, the shattering music of Bob Marley and the Wailers sparked a new interest in music for Sahra and she began to explore the musical talent that ran through her blood and could cultivate into something all her own. Sahra would later “catch a fire” on the active volcanic island of Hawaii, re-birthing herself in the Jahringa Reggae Band. “Jahringa” an Australian Aboriginal word for “dreamtime”, was a place where Sahra found her voice to sing about the beauty and the mysteries of life.

Sahra's debut CD’s title track “Good’s Gonna Happen”, (Olumeye Records 2003), received international merit for the positive promise it gives listeners, “good's gonna happen so, don’t give up, good’s gonna come to you my love”, and won the "Reggae Song of the Year" award in the Unisong International Song Contest.

Sahra's next cd “CHANGE”, co-produced by Tuff Lion (Viva Music and Bambu Station) and Sahra Indio (Olumeye Records),"CHANGE" concert tours are being scheduled for the Fall 2006.

Sahra has opened for and performed with international reggae stars such as Alpha Blondy, Don Carlos, Third World, Junior Reid, Prezident Brown, Dezarie, Midnite, Bambu Station, Ikahba, Steel Pulse and Rico Rodriques.

Sahra’s dynamic club, festival and radio appearances have carried the message of “Truth & Rights” globally, earning her the title “Jah’s Jewel”. Most recently, in the US Virgin Islands, fans felt the good vibes of Sahra at the Rastafarian Agricultural Fair on the island of St Thomas. Sahra will be returning to the Virgin Islands later this year for a benefit concert for the Per Ankh Society of St Croix.
