Album Notes

Steven Andrew Kacsmar's music is an intriguing mix of folk, acoustic rock, and the blues. South of Mainstream describes his voice as "a mixture of James Taylor and Willie Nelson... It carries a twang as well as a soulful sound and is also sophisticated. Something about his voice brings an intense honesty to all the songs." His music resonates with the influence of a wide range of genres, while his lyrics are poignantly honest.

Steven's debut solo CD, "Dreams and Destiny" has just been released by SunLotus Music. Produced by Grammy nominee Roberta Donnay, this CD features stellar musicians such as Gigi Gonaway (Mariah Carey) on drums, Stuart Hamm (Joe Satriani) on bass, and Matt Baxter (Shanachie Records) on lead guitar, dobro, and mandolin. The project was recorded and engineered by David Freiberg (Quicksilver Messenger Service, Jefferson Starship).

Steven's song "There Must Be Something More" was performed in an anti-violence musical at the Bill Graham Civic Auditorium, featuring 500 youth performers. "It's Our World" was featured at a meeting of California Peace Action. Most recently, he was a singer and lead guitarist for Sibling Rivalry, a local band reminiscent of The Jayhawks.

While continuing his solo career, Steven is forming a new band and writing songs for his next CD.

Steven hosts a monthly Songwriters Workshop in San Francisco run by Songsalive!, a non-profit organiztion that supports independent artists. He is also a member West Coast Songwriters and TAXI.

Can only be written, and sung, by one who has lived it. Can only be heard and understood by one who has been along for the ride. Splendid.

My heart is aching, soaring, breaking, flying, crying, smiling, dying, joyfully singing with with Steven. The lyrics are touching and emotional; while the music is full of passion. Please do not ever stop doing what you are doing Steven. Like fine wine, your voice and music only grow richer and bolder with age. I can't wait until the release of your next CD.

Steve, WOW, I was just listening to a sampling of your CD and I am blown away, It sounds great and the lyrics are spot on! It is an excellent piece of work that mostly brought me to tears with every song not just because of the content but because of the fond memories of our High School days and how under appreciated many talented people were way back then. I am really proud to be able to say that I know you and once jammed with you. If Steve is touring I would drop whatever I was doing to see him Possibly biased review from an old friend and percussionist, keyboard player, accordionist, bassist and more recently guitarist. .... Steven Kacsmar's debut CD epitomizes the new folk sound -- upbeat tone, soulful sentiment, accessible themes and all around great sound. I listened to it the first time ... and hit the "play" button again to hear it over. And over. And over. I love this CD for so many reasons, including Kacsmar's talent and ability and the way his style dovetails so nicely with the overall production of this CD. Great work! Can't wait for more!
